Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN users

You know how Playstation Network was hacked and went down for a number of weeks? Well... they've announced their plan to win us back. So far I think their 'welcome back' offer looks better than I had ever imagined. That is, unless I've missed something in the fine print.

Highlights from the link:

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Dead Nation
inFAMOUS
LittleBigPlanet
Super Stardust HD
Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
ModNation Racers
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation

A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

If it's true and if I indeed will qualify, then it's unfortunate that Little Big Planet is on the list... because I bought that game a mere 2 weeks prior to PSN going down. Oh, well... I'll still pick up something. The hassle of canceling the credit card (to be on the safe side) and the uncertainty of what was going on is worth some kind of a reward, I figure.

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

Damn, I have both LBP and inFamous - which is an awesome game BTW, I highly recommend it. Guess I'll have to check out those others...

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

If I qualify for free games, I'm definitely getting inFamous for the PS3 (even though I haven't ever played much 3D-type shooters). And I'm leaning toward Dead Nation for the other one, but would still consider Wipeout.

I've also got a PSP portable, so if by chance I also can choose 2 additional titles then I'll do "Little Big Planet"; not all that interested in any of the other PSP titles listed.

Come to think about it, I'm not nearly as excited about the offerings as I was at first glance. It's still a nice gesture, but considering that some fairly sensitive personal information was stolen from PSN users, I can understand how some users have complained about the selection, even though Sony didn't have to offer free games at all.

I hope I used fake info when creating the account for the really sensitive info. It was too long ago and I don't even remember them asking for date of birth or phone number, but usually I try to avoid giving that info out in similar situations where it really shouldn't be necessary.

Yeah but how long till PSN gets back up and running. It's been a month now and I still can't do shit. But will get LBP and InFamous when it comes back up.

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

matt, you CAN tho, still use your netflix account tho, as well as everything else except Quirocity and PSN store...

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

Jomari, no I can't. Netflix asks me to logon to my Playstation acct before it plays a movie (it will let me select a movie, just not play it) and since PS3 isnt up to allow me to change my new password, it won't let me log on at all. :angry-cussingblack:

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

Really? I was able to watch stuff during the first 3 week PSN outage... Yeah it asked me to log on, I selected "sign in", it came back with a message "unable to log on", and when I hit circle/back, netflix would then proceed as usual.

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

The free game options are now available for download. I'm going to wait a bit before attempting mine since it sounds like the servers are getting overloaded this weekend.

Re: Sony announces free games 'welcome back' offer for PSN u

I got mine the moment the site went back up, I knew it was up about 1/2 hour after it was up from a buddy of mine, so I immediatly downloaded the two games (Infamous and LBP) and had no issues (cept Infamous took three times as long as LBP to download) played both briefly and like em both.
