Speakers crackle with volume knob

you all are so helpful,I'm just going to keep them coming!

I have M-Audio powered near field monitors for computer speakers. When I adjust the volume, either up or down, there is a crackle that comes through the speakers. Other than that they sound fine.
Any thoughts?
Thank you very much.

I assume you are adjusting the volume dial on the speakers?

If so, it is a dirty potentiometer. Turn them off and aggressively spin the volume knob all the way up and all the way down about a dozen times. That might clean the pot. If the crackle remains, you need to use a proper delaying solution such as Caig's deoxit.

Wow thank you. I will try that. If I do have to clean the thingy, I assume goggle will tell me how.
Cause that crackle drives me bonkers!
And yes its knob on the speaker.

I am certain there are hundreds of videos on YouTube showing you how to use Deoxit to clean a volume control.
