So, I have been following Sting on Social Media and he has a new album coming out and everyone is really excited about it.

But... I just saw the video for the first single (below), and, well... it sounds like it came out of Nashville. Sure, there some classic Sting writing flares in it. But, overall, it sounds like any of the hundreds of modern country-pop-rock artists out there today. This is just one song, so I cannot judge the entire album. I haven't bought all his music since leaving the Police, so I am okay with missing a few. But this is disappointing. I am going to tell myself he wanted to write one hit to make the label happy and the rest of the album is better.

 
I wish they'd have put ANY effort into the video. I get that a music video doesn't have to recreate the song visually but the whole thing looks like they shot it in a few hours. The song describes the "fronzen heart of winter" with multiple references to ice and snow. Yet the entire video is Sting in/around a studio. The outdoor shots show bright sun and palm trees. It really took me out of the music.

That video took up 2" x 4" of my computer screen, yet "Vevo" had to shove five ads in my face before it ended.
Another Sting album, I'd have to hear it through once before deciding to get it; his last album (titled something about winter, and I don't think it's even available anymore) was so excruciatingly bad that I threw it in the trash. Dream of the Blue Turtles was a fantastic album, but he's slid downhill ever since, imho. o_O

No, in all honesty I think music videos are bad for music listening like movies are bad for book reading!! Does that sound stuffy and highfalutin?
