My wife and I do not get HBO, but are huge fans of True Bood and buy each season on Blu-Ray as they come out. We picked up season three last weekend and are about half-way through it. Great stuff.
I am also a huge fan of the books and have noticed that each seaons gets a bit farther away from the source material, due to the accumulation of character and plot changes. I do not think this is to the detriment of the show, necessarily. The show and the books are entirely different animals on a number of levels (i.e. the show is darker), but I enjoy both tremendously.
I highly recommend the series if you haven't seen it and even vaguely like vampires. Don't worry, no emo teenie-bopper vampire pussification here.
