US TV Sales Slowing

Interesting article.

From the article:

After a period of strong growth, sales of televisions are slowing. To counter this, TV makers are trying to persuade consumers to buy new sets by promoting new technologies. At this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, which opens Thursday, every TV maker will be crowing about things like 3-D and Internet connections — features that have not generated much excitement so far.

The internet connections are nice, but I can have that with my PS3, so IMO, buying a TV that's able to connect to the internet would be just wasteful. As for 3D, too new and too expensive after you figure in the cost of the display, along with the capable player, media, and glasses.

A friend of mine at work bought himself a 55" LED Samsung 3D TV. I'm sure he paid a pretty penny for it. I'm interested in 3D TV (until some demos turn me off from it), but I'm going to sit back and wait before I make a move on something like a 3D LED based projector.

2011 will be the year of the upgrade for me. my 55" mitsu RPTV from 04' is showing some wear... a bit bulky too :D .... i'm waiting to see what comes out of CES... following CNET on FB... good flow of info... having a hard time on deciding on 3D.. not impressed w/ the demos i've seen... now that ESPN is beginning to broadcast some, and if your provider will offer it could be fun... don't know but having Vince Wilfork flying out of your TV to sack you could be interesting...

This doesn't surprise me at all. Prior to 3D, tons of flat panels with the price decreases were flying off of shelves. I would imagine a majority of people in the market for a TV have made a recent purchase in the last few years...I would also guess that buyers on the fence about 3D or in a bit of a financial situation are either waiting for additional prices drops and/or additional funds...

I'm hoping to do the same. My work has gotten behind on some orders and we just landed a huge account which I know will mean even more OT. I'm hoping this helps me get that credit card monkey off my back. When it's gone, look out.
