Heading out shortly to see Victor Wooten at one of our usual local spots (Rams Head Live), should be fun! I know his work well with the Flecktones, have no idea what sort of solo stuff he's done. I'm assuming he'll be playing with a band of some sort tonight, not really sure... Kids are sleeping over at a friend's though, so at least we'll have a night "on the town" - y'all know what party animals my wife and I are.

Yeah - no major trips this summer (farthest was Bat's house a whole hour and a half away), so we're kinda making up for it by getting in a lot of music. Pretty fair trade, IMHO.

Soooo jealous! Enjoy the show; he's from another planet.

Have fun Pauly, you should be in for a Treat! :music-rockout:

Wow, really really good show! Yeah I know I say that every time I post about a concert  but I enjoyed this one a hell of a lot. No opening act; Victor and his band came right out, and played for 2.5 hours. He's an amazing bassist, one of the best out there IMHO. He did some solo stuff, and some with the band: his brother on guitar, a local friend also on bass - who teaches at a bass camp that Wooten runs here in MD, keyboardist, and a really outstanding drummer. Plus a couple guest spots by two of the "star" camp students - they were good for ~18-year-olds. And then Victor's two daughters also sang, one's about 16 the other's probably no more than 12, they did a good version of Cohen's Hallelujah with Victor meandering into Amazing Grace in the middle - very cool.

Anyway the overall style of the show was kinda jazz funk with a good bit of R&B, very improvisational, more jamming than just playing songs. Very interesting stuff. We were right up by the stage, about 3' from Victor for much of the concert. A couple of times as he leaned out towards the audience I coulda reached up and plucked a note or two. Was kinda loud though, and the subs were under the stage right in front of us - you could feel a breeze when the kick drum got going! Good thing I brought my little etymotic ear plugs, that made it easier for me to appreciate the music.

I don't have any of Victor's solo albums, will definitely be getting a few now.

Pretty damn good time, considering the tickets were $22 each!

An amazing concert for sure. I had no idea what to expect, but he and his band far exceeded expectations. His brother had a solo bit and was totally insane--it was so much fun! After, I had a chance to shake his hand (and the keyboard and other bassist) and wow, the callouses were incredible!
