Yup. I love the song Dimming of the Day, in particular.

No shit. I spent around $100 on cds from amazon this morning, bunch of jazz (see the jazz thread) and some classical SACDs that came up when I searched "SACD" in the music department...

Um, who is that Rope? The intranetz address didn't have the artist's name in it...

Whomever recommended this one, thank you!

I really like this album. It's up there with Cookin', which I also need to get remastered.

So for those who know, how many of the "_____ with the Miles Davis Quintet" albums are there?

Workin'
Cookin'
Relaxin'
Steamin'

I have the first two.

I spent about $200 at Amazon, been getting packages yesterday and today (but half of mine were books).

Also got this one, nice so far:

Are you a Amazon Prime Member?

It was/is the best $79 I've spent. Two day shipping on just about everything is a fantastic incentive!

Not yet, I need to do that (doesn't it include some kind of free intranetz video now too?)

Well, I didn't go as crazy as Botch and Pauly. I got to looking around for the other Quintet albums and saw this gem.......

I traded for this exact show a few years back (minus the bonus tracks) not realizing it was an official release. A great concert, so when I saw this I had to jump.

Also added:

Cookin' With the Miles Davis Quintet
Relaxin' With the Miles Davis Quintet
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers at the Cafe Bohemia vols 1&2

At least three of the above are the Rudy Van Gelder remasters. Don't know about Relaxin' but it is the remastered version I bought. Spent about $50.

Yep, this place costs me money.

Oops, I missed this one.

Walkin' is the only one you missed (IIRC). Miles is the Man, good for you for exploring his catalog.

I have the Remastered 20bit K2 coding "Relaxin'" and it is much, much better than the original release.

Dennie

Thanks Dennie. I have Walkin', but didn't know if it counted since it is Miles Davis' All Stars.

Still good either way. Listening to Bags' Groove now.

Some Girls

The Rolling Stones

1978 The Rolling Stones Records

Amazon.com essential recording

A fresh, uncompromising attempt to incorporate 1978 pop techniques into the band's familiar sound, Some Girls opens with the disco sass of "Miss You" and closes with the self-destructive punk of "Shattered." (Both songs, especially "Miss You," with its distinctive Mel Collins sax solo, remain live showstoppers.) So the Stones declared credibility in the dance circuit without sacrificing their hard-rock reputation. Though the anti-love "Beast of Burden" and the stylishly slow "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" continue to rack up the most airplay, the obscurities stand up surprisingly well. Worth replaying: Keith Richards's rickety rocker "Before They Make Me Run." --Steve Knopper
Amazon.com

Few rock stars have played in the intersection of real life, image, and fans' imaginations as smartly (and comically) as Mick Jagger does on Some Girls. With the Stones again running at top pace, Jagger aims his gimlet eye at his and the boys' gossip-column lives (the Chuck Berryish "Respectable," the archly blues-wailing title track), his collapsing marriage (where was Bianca when Mick's pals were trying to hook him up with the "Puerto Rican girls who're just dyin' to meetchoo?) and the mores and modes of New York society in the Studio 54 era (practically everything here). Slot in Keith's lament "Before They Make Me Run," and this is one of the greatest Stones albums. --Rickey Wright

Abbey Road

The Beatles

1969 Apple Records

Amazon.com essential recording

The Beatles' last days as a band were as productive as any major pop phenomenon that was about to split. After recording the ragged-but-right Let It Be, the group held on for this ambitious effort, an album that was to become their best-selling. Though all four contribute to the first side's writing, John Lennon's hard-rocking, "Come Together" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" make the strongest impression. A series of song fragments edited together in suite form dominates side two; its portentous, touching, official close ("Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End") is nicely undercut, in typical Beatles fashion, by Paul McCartney's cheeky "Her Majesty," which follows. --Rickey Wright

Side one
No. Title Lead vocals Length
1. "Come Together" Lennon 4:20
2. "Something" (George Harrison) Harrison 3:03

5. "Octopus's Garden" (Richard Starkey) Starr 2:51
6. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" Lennon 7:47

Side two

1. "Here Comes the Sun" (Harrison) Harrison 3:05
2. "Because" Lennon, McCartney and Harrison 2:45
3. "You Never Give Me Your Money" McCartney 4:02
