Spread Love Like Wildfire -- CD

Down To The Bone

2005 Narada Records

Slammin'! December 19, 2005
By F. Hicks
Format:Audio CD

Ain't enough superlatives to describe this but I want more! I kind of fell out of the loop after DTTB's first album, but I see they ain't lost their touch. Now I want their entire catalog! All of the cuts are excellent, but my favorite cut is "Angel Baby" which came as a shock to me at first (I wasn't expecting any vocal tracks). The bass player is just awesome and the vocals infect the groove instead of merely riding on top.

Track listing

1. Memphis Groove
2. Mystic Samba
3. Tiburon
4. Angel Baby
5. Pure Funk
6. Hammerhead
7. Wildfire Woman
8. Gotta Get Back to You
9. Lightning Rod
10. London Life
11. Latin Sagebrush

Jazz In The Garden -- CD

The Stanley Clarke Trio with Hiromi & Lenny White

2009 Heads Up Records

The "GENTLE" side of Stanley...., July 8, 2010

This review is from: Jazz in the Garden (Audio CD)

A truly gorgeous album! Perhaps my favorite jazz album of all time is "Kind of Blue", by Miles Davis, but this comes pretty close, as far as that type of "vibe" goes. The beautiful music here is somewhat reminisent, even without trumpet and sax, which is saying a lot! Lenny's gentle riding on the cymbal reminds me of the soft rain sound of Jimmy Cobb on some of "Kind of Blue", along with Hiromi's less agressive feel and Stanley's acoustic bass. "Sakura Sakura", is simply beautiful!
For those who prefer the "hard stuff", (Stanley's great fusion), I would also highly recommend his new album, simply entitled "The Stanley Clarke Band", released last month, which also features Hiromi, and two other killer players, Ronald Bruner jr. and Ruslan Sirota.

"Paradigm Shift (Election Day 2008)" (Clarke) (7:42)
"Sakura Sakura" (traditional) (5:30)
"Sicilian Blue" (Hiromi) (4:48)
"Take the Coltrane" (Ellington) (3:29)
"3 Wrong Notes" (Clarke) (5:46)
"Someday My Prince Will Come" (Churchill, Morey) (4:52)
"Isotope" (Henderson) (5:27)
"Bass Folk Song No. 5 & 6" (Clarke) (4:01)
"Global Tweak" (Clarke, Hiromi) (3:42)
"Solar" (Davis) (5:12)
"Brain Training" (Hiromi) (4:52)
"Under the Bridge" (Balzary, Kiedis, Smith, Frusciante) (5:30)

This review is from: Jim Croce - 36 All-Time Greatest Hits (Audio CD)

I was lucky and found this at a discount bookstore. Three CDs of the great Jim Croce including songs that you typically (or never) have heard him sing including "Old Man River" and a Medley that includes "Chain Gang/He don't Love You/Searchin, and "King's Song" and "Stone Walls."
The CD, of course, has the classics that everyone heard on the radio growing up (and on the OLDIES station these days) including "I Got A Name" and "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" but the great classics are the ones rarely heard on the radio such as "Alabama Rain" and "Lovers Cross."

The CD isn't that expensive and you'll get 36 great songs sung by a great songwriter and singer whose life was too short.

Track Listings

1. I Got A Name
2. Which Way Are You Goin
3. Railroad Song
4. Hey Tomorrow

Hey No-L, It's a Crap Shoot! LOL

Sometimes I pick out a bunch of music I want to listen to, but then I'll be reading a review of something else and the whole pile I picked out, is shot to hell. :angry-banghead:

Let's just call it "Divine" intervention! There is no real rhyme or reason, although I would like to think there is. LOL

I have over 2500 DVD's and I use to say "the hardest thing about owning so many movies, is picking just one to watch"!

Well, it is the same with CD's..... :eusa-think:

Healing Hands of Time -- CD

Willie Nelson

2005 Liberty Records

There is life after a broken heart...

By "glogie" - See all my reviews
This review is from: Healing Hands of Time (Audio CD)

and Willie's lyrical ride through his "Healing Hands of Time" CD will help to inspire you to get there. The arrangement of this music is what makes this CD special. Willie takes 6 of his own previously released songs, and 4 other very familiar tunes, and records them with an orchestra, torch song style. Willie's unique vocal style sets the tone for this CD, and the orchestra provides the mood. The combination of the two makes for a sound that is richer and more profound than his original recordings. Listening to this CD will at times make you want to draw a shot of bourbon, or a cold one, listen to the lyrics, and reflect on loves lost. At other times you may want to grab your sweetheart around the waist for a slow dance, celebrating your togetherness!

"Funny How Time Slips Away" - 5:30
"Crazy" - 3:30
"Night Life" (Paul Buskirk, Walter Breeland, Willie Nelson) - 3:56
"Healing Hands of Time" - 3:45
"(How Will I Know) I'm Falling in Love Again" - 4:14
"All the Things You Are" (Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II) - 2:51
"Oh, What I Seemed to Be" (Bennie Benjamin, Frankie Carle, George David Weiss) - 3:21
"If I Had My Way" (James Kendis, Lou Klein) - 3:23
"I'll Be Seeing You" (Irving Kahal, Sammy Fain) - 3:02
"There Are Worse Things Than Being Alone" - 4:08

Wishes -- CD

Lari White

1994 RCA Records

Wonderful voice
October 10, 2001
By CJ Sanders
Format:Audio CD

The lady's quite a singer. I snapped up this CD soon after hearing the lovely title song, which is featured prominently in the great movie 'Big Eden.' White's pure, clear voice reminds me of Dolly Parton. The album contains terrific ballads as well as catchy, foot-tapping tunes. By the way, remember the sculptress whom Tom Hanks meets on a country road at the end of 'Cast Away'? This is her.

1. That's My Baby
2. Somebody's Fool
3. Wishes
4. Now I Know
5. If I'm Not Already Crazy
6. That's How You Know (When You're In Love)
7. When It Rains
8. Go On
9. It's Love
10. If You Only Knew

Full Circle -- CD

Randy Travis

What a voice!
June 19, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD

This is probably my favorite album by Randy Travis, and definately a must-have for anyone who enjoys Randy's music. He gets you with EVERY song -- with warmth, humor and that gorgeous deep voice! It's like he's right there, singing to you, telling you his story. The fun "If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another" probably describes your life perfectly! The beautiful "Long On Lonely, Short On Pride", "I Wish It Would Rain" ("so she won't see what she's doin' to me") and "Future Mister Me" and "Price to Pay" are rich with emotion, humility, and honesty, -- they are all soooooo good! Need upbeat and twangy Randy? -- check out "Would I" (he had to be dancing when he recorded this one!) You will not be disappointed!

The Stranger -- CD

Billy Joel

1977/1990 Columbia Records

The Stranger remains frozen in time as a great album.
,
April 25, 2000
By Leonard Fleisig "Len"
This review is from: The Stranger (Audio CD)

I have always suspected that certain musicians, Bill Joel and Paul Simon come to mind, resent being told by fans that one of their earlier albums remains a great favorite. Both Joel & Simon have graduated, apparently, from musician to artist and I imagine they would prefer that their fans share and appreciate their development and evolution. However, the album listener is not burdened by the pains of artistic growth. Rather, the music that I heard at a certain time in my life remains frozen in time and memory. For me, the Stranger is the best album Joel ever recorded. It has been a long time since I actually sat down and listened to the entire Stranger album. I had forgotten how good it was. Every song works. Even "Just the way you are" which became one of the all-time vomit inducing wedding songs of the '70s sounds good in the context of this album. I still care about Brenda and Eddie. I grew up in Queens at the same time Joel was growing up in Long Island. I knew Brenda and Eddie - or lots of people who could pass for Brenda and Eddie. Only the good die young still has that parochial school resonance and lust-driven undertones that it had almost 30 years ago. So sit down - have a bottle of red, have a bottle of white - it all depends on your appetite - and enjoy this great cd.

All songs written and composed by Billy Joel.

Side 1

"Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)" – 3:30
"The Stranger" – 5:10
"Just the Way You Are" – 4:52
"Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" – 7:37

Side 2

"Vienna" – 3:34
"Only the Good Die Young" – 3:55
"She's Always a Woman" – 3:21
"Get It Right the First Time" – 3:57
"Everybody Has a Dream/The Stranger (Reprise)" – 6:38
