What Are You Listening To?

This just arrived today and am listening right now but I'm exceptionally curious to know who - if anyone - has this.

The available audio tracks are as follows:
2.0 PCM 24-bit/96kHz
2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio 24-bit/96kHz
2.0 Dolby TrueHD 24-bit/96kHz

Each of which sounds drastically and dramatically different than the others.

Strangely, the Dolby TrueHD track was noticeably louder but it also sounded more forward, seems to have more presence and midrange but less stereo imaging.

Thoughts from any owners?

Potentially interesting side note: this is my very first Rolling Stones disc believe it or not.

^ Zing, I cannot help you here, however I only own 1 of their albums. Goats Head Soup. We covered 2 of their songs off of this album in our Rock Band in High School. Heartbreaker and Angie..................Angie is one of my all time favorite songs. The Rolling Stones never did it for me....................The Who, well that is another story!!

:music-rockout: :music-rockout:

1. Dancing with Mr. D.
2. 100 Years Ago
3. Coming Down Again
4. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)
5. Angie
6. Silver Train
7. Hide Your Love
8. Winter
9. Can You Hear the Music
10. Star Star

While I don't have the Blu-ray version, I do have both the original CD version and the 2010 remastered CD release (two discs with ten bonus tracks on the second disc.) I thought that the remastered version was a big improvement on the original - in almost every way. I'd be curious to know if it's that version that was the basis for the PCM tracks on the Blu-ray version.

Jeff

ps. First Stones CD ever? Seriously dude?

ps. I've got all of the 2002 ABKCO SACD releases, which were all excellent remasters at the time. Exile was not one of them; at least I never came across a copy.

^Yep. Seriously. First Stones' CD ever. Just not a big fan. There are a few songs of theirs I can tolerate and even fewer than I genuinely like. And not all that long ago, I used to say "Three of the biggest acts in music and I own none of their music" (referring to Elvis, the Beatles and the Stones). I still own nothing from Elvis.

As for the three different audio tracks, here are a few observations:
* TrueHD - Nearly every instrument (the guitars in particular) sounds dirty and their recording sounds as old as the music is but the piano sounds fantastic and clean like it was recorded yesterday in the best studio with the best equipment by the most capable audio-enthusiast engineer.

* DTS-HD MA - More laid back than TrueHD with better stereo imaging and separation and balanced sound yet the piano doesn't seem quite as clean.

* PCM - OUTSTANDING stereo imaging and separation but has a muted, almost-AM-radio sound to it. Again, sounds as old as it is.

What I find so strange is how vastly different the codecs are on this disc. Usually I'm hard pressed to tell the difference but these are glaringly obvious.

Alright, this whole thing has me intrigued enough, I put in this disc.

It has identical audio options. They too are blatantly obvious in their differences (for some reason this went unnoticed by me with previous listening sessions). The differences are quite similar to the differences on Exile On Main St but I can't detect a difference in sound quality with individual instruments as I can on the Stones' disc and the AM radio thing is completely absent on the Clapton disc. Again, the TrueHD track is the loudest and the PCM track has the best stereo separation.

I have to agree! Zing & I do differ with some musical talents, but, WE totally agree with 'The Rolling Stones'!

I know some of their tunes from radio listening. I would never seek out their music, ever.

Just One Night -- 2 CD Set

Eric Clapton

1980/1996 RSO/Polydor Records

Night Moves, July 27, 2001
By Thomas Magnum (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Just One Night (Audio CD)

Eric Clapton periodically releases live albums and they show the reason why there are few guitarists that walk with him. Sometimes on his studio albums, one loses sight of his extraordinary skills, but he continues to amaze in concert. The passages he reels off in songs like "After Midnight", "Cocaine", "Double Trouble", "Setting Me Up", "Blues Power" and "Rambling On My Mind" are thick, meaty and full of passion and power. Mr. Clapton scored a minor hit with the rollicking live version of Tulsa Time and the album peaked at number two for six weeks.

Disc one

"Tulsa Time" (Danny Flowers) – 4:00
"Early in the Morning" (Traditional) – 7:11
"Lay Down Sally" (Clapton, Marcy Levy, George Terry) – 5:35
"Wonderful Tonight" (Clapton) – 4:42
"If I Don't Be There By Morning" (Bob Dylan, Helena Springs) – 4:26
"Worried Life Blues" (Big Maceo Merriweather) – 8:28
"All Our Past Times" (Clapton, Rick Danko) – 5:00
"After Midnight" (J.J. Cale) – 5:38

Disc two

"Double Trouble" (Otis Rush) – 8:17
"Setting Me Up" (Mark Knopfler) – 4:35
"Blues Power" (Clapton, Leon Russell) – 7:23
"Rambling On My Mind" (Robert Johnson/Traditional) – 8:48
"Cocaine" (J.J. Cale) – 7:39
"Further on Up the Road" (Joe Medwick, Don Robey) – 7:17

He's the guy in the middle in the red shirt. He is a 22 year old Brit. He does NOT sound like a 22 year old Brit!!

Speaking of voices!! Is that Adam Levine's natural voice or do they constantly add something to it?? Auto tune, reverb...always sounds slightly unnatural?

Buy it now...thank me later!!! :banana-rock: Shameless Canadian band plug!!

Interesting side note. Warren Zevon chose them as his touring band for his album "Mr. Bad Example"

Skeletons From The Closet - The Best of -- CD

Grateful Dead

1974/1990 Warner Bros. Records

A Contrary Opinion January 6, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD

Contrary to other statements, I feel that this cd contains all of the songs necessary, and then some, to be called "the best of". "Mexicali Blues" is one of my favorite Dead songs. I believe that it entails a musical background seperate from that of the other songs, but is just as catchy. The lyrics are incredible as well. I think that anyone who likes this cd should go onto albums. American Beauty is a good starting point. It contains some songs found here and other classics such as "Ripple" and "Box of Rain". This is definitly an incredible cd.

On a recent discussion we've had wrt XTC and power pop, I almost posted something about FoW; that ^^^ is my favorite power pop album ever (even edging out Todd Rundgren/Utopia's "white" album) (for me).
I have several other FoW albums, both earlier and later than WIM, but that one is their Masterwork, their Bridge Over Troubled Water. Fantastic album! :bow-blue: :bow-blue: :bow-blue: :eusa-clap: :handgestures-thumbup: :eek:bscene-drinkingcheers:
