What Are You Listening To?

This song just doesn't get played enough. Only Sir Paul could take one of the world's most hideous instruments, and make it SOAR!

I feel I must defend the pipes in honour of my deceased full blooded Scottish mother and father in law.
You sir are a heathen....and I fart in your general direction!!

I've been listening to a lot of The Warning lately. I think they are one of the best new acts to hit the rock scene in years. Here are a few live clips from the last couple years. They are three sisters from Monterey, MX.

facebook just served me up a Blast from the Past. I actually have the BMB's Greatest Hits on vinyl!

Bruno Mars has the Meidas Touch. He did a guest vocal on an unknown artist's album, Mick Mark Ronson (who?) and had one of the biggest hits in a decade, Uptown Funk. Then he paired up with a guy who I guess was a little more well-known (I hadn't heard of him, Anderson .paak), and released easily the best album of the COVID era, Silk Sonic.
Now he's done a duo (don't know if there's an album) with Lady Gaga, and this song is great. Enjoy.

If the World is ending,
I wanna be next,
To you

Kind of a cool song. A bit modern and a bit Seventies. I bet Bruno‘s meidas touch makes a huge star out of this new gal on the block… this… Lady who or whatever. She’s gonna be the next big thing! ;)

Damn. That is a GREAT song.

The late, great Roy Clark playing Malagueña; what a master!

Nice. I used to play a version of this same piece on piano all the time. Although not quite up to this level ... this is Arcadi Volodos, one of my very top favorite pianists, he is a beast.

When the hell did Mike Portnoy re-join Dream Theater?!?! Nobody tells me anything!

This just blew my socks off. And Jordan Rudess adding anti-skid tape* to his keyboard is next-level badass!

*after watching this a second time in a half-hour, they might've been Smurf band-aids; I can't tell. :D

A lot of my musician friends mock me for liking Duran Duran, and at first I thought they were a "pretty boy"/made-for-MTV band, but their melodies had me singing in the shower many mornings. I eventually grew to be a huge fan. I've performed "Rio" on stage many times (one of the few tunes I sang lead) and this tune, "Ordinary World", which is fantastic; enjoy!

Cory Wong (of the Vulfpeck gang) has his own band called Dirty Loops. Here's their cover of Thriller, and it smokes!!

Synth pads are identical, brass section sounds identical, drum sounds sound identical, even the lead vox sound like (actually better than) MJ; and yet this goes so far outside the box.... love it!

I was mistaken above, The Dirty Loops are their own trio, just collab'd with Cory and the brass above. Yowza!

It takes melon-sized Swedish balls to re-orchestrate a Stevie tune, and then blow it out of the water like these guys do. Dayam!

Liquid Tension Experiment; 3/5ths of Dream Theater with Tony Levin on Stick/bass, no vocals. When I'm in the mood for fast athleto-prog, these guys scratch the itch.

For decades, I thought Rick Wakeman was a dick. Every interview I'd read in Rolling Stone, Musician, and Keyboard magazines over the years, he came across as an absolute dick! I know a couple folks who have met him, and their opinion was quite different (and I've always wanted to play Roundabout in a band to try that Hammond solo; it never happened).
Here he plays a solo piano classical interpretation of Bowie's Space Oddity, and it's captivating, wow. Nicely filmed in a beautiful cathedral that seems to be unheated. Enjoy.

Not sure if you have seen this or not Botch?!!
