Beck - Morning Phase

I've been listening to this new Beck album on repeat all day on Spotify. If you liked Sea Change the I think you will like this.

I didn't know how badly I needed some new Beck.

There's been a real buzz about this album with my musician friends. :handgestures-thumbup:

I really liked sea change. I bought guero, but didn't really get into it other than a few songs. Playing the first song 'cycle' on spot iffy right now. Definitely could've been on sea change. It's almost too similar. But it's good nonetheless. So far.

Keep going, I think you'll be happy you did.

Bought!

Just ordered it. I haven't even listened to it, but if you guys think it's that close to Sea Change (which I love), then it should be good.

Yep.....love it. 'Wave' is one of my favorites, but love how he ends the album with 'Waking Light'. That song has been in my head all day!

This is only the 4th album I have (others being Odelay, Sea Change, and Modern Guilt). I love Modern Guilt, but I think I like this album much better. It seems so much polished compared to MG. I like how it's low key like Sea Change.

I need to check out the rest of the catalog. My younger brother keeps pushing me to get Midnight Vultures. That might be my next Beck purchase.

Midnight Vultures is the only time I can recall a Beck album getting a truly bad review. It was in S&V Magazine and the critic wrote something like not understanding why Beck keeps getting a free pass. And then a few years later we got Sea Change. Boom!

Not that there aren't plenty of good reviews for Midnight Vultures. Haven't really listened to it myself. (Maybe ii should Spotify it this weekend.). Like you, I only have a few of his albums.

I guess the S&V critic ran out of Britney Spears albums to review. (kidding).

I don't read a lot of reviews, mainly because I don't know if a certain reviewer would have the same tastes as me. You guys here a different as I've gotten to know what your tastes are over the years. We all like Sea Change, so after a few posts referring to how close Morning Phase is to that album, I knew I was going to like it.

Pretty cool how close these two albums for having different producers. If you told me Nigel Goodrich produced this album, I'd believe it.

Speaking of Sea Change.....................

Pretty sure they reviewed a DVD-audio version of some Britney Spears album. But I can't recall if that was them who reviewed Paris Hilton's vanity CD. It took a long time, but eventually I gave up on the magazine. And then when I bought a tablet, I gave brief thought to subscribing to the electronic edition. But a brief sample made it obvious that I wouldn't be happy with the tablet layout. Even on a 10 inch screen it felt like someone tried to fit a square into a whole. There's probably a better analogy. Regardless, I didn't get sucked back in.
