I thought the problem with lists like this are... there are lists like this?? :happy-smileygiantred:

Yea Razz, but I voted on the list as soon as I saw it and didn't give you any shit!

Hey I voted before my first post. I'm hoping my picks win as the other songs (though awesome) are just not all out rock your ass off material.

As for GnR,

Not a big fan either, but they were one of the Rockinest bands in the 80s. I bet Appetite For Destruction was a top seller in that decade, if not in the top five. I would have included "Welcome To The Jungle" on my list.

I think a fair way to do this is to separate it per decade. Say, top # of 60's, 70's, 80's 90's...

BTW, does Rock & Roll still exist these days?

I somewhat agree. For me, even though I love music from the 70s the best, most of the rocking songs I like are from the 80s. Could be generational thing, I don't know.

I think Rock is still alive, but not as mainstream as it was. Bands like Porcupine Tree, Wolfmother, Dead Weather, and so on seem to fall in that genre or are close to it.

Is rock dead???

Listen to the music that is picked for mainstream commercials.

Listen to the music being played at sporting events.

Most of them are old rock songs from the 70's and 80's.

Unfortunately the age of highly computerized pop/rap has taken over the spot light for new artisits, however I will not get sucked in.

ROCK ON!! :music-rockout: :music-rockout: :music-rockout:

The main reason they play old rock on TV and in stadiums is the cost of licensing is MUCH, MUCH lower than new music.

And...........people like it! :eek:bscene-buttred:

Really, it is about money. Many of the songs they play are already royalty free. It can be extremely costly to license music for commercials and stadiums.

I am appalled that the Beatles are nowhere on this list whatsoever.

How about......

Motley Crue - Kickstart my Heart.
Heart - Kick it out
Boston - Foreplay/Long Time
The Clash - Magnificent Seven or London Calling
The Police - Driven to Tears
Metallica - One or Enter Sandman
Scorpions - Rock you like a Hurricane
Meat Loaf - Paradise by the Dashboard light
Soundgarden - Black Holed Sun
Molly Hatchet - Flirting with Disaster
Eagles - Already Gone
Kansas - Carry On (my wayward son)
RamJam - Whoa Black Betty Bam a Lam
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
The Kinks - Lola

Razz far too many variables to make this an even poll.

Botch, you also prolly didn't notice that there is not one mention of "The Who" either. :scared-yipes:

I don't consider the Beatles as rocking out. if you guys are talking about guitar driven rocking out tunes, then my list would probably be (just off the top of my head and in no order).

1) Kick Start My Heart - Motley Crue
2) Barracuda - Heart
3) Welcome To The Jungle - GnR
4) American Woman - Guess Who (Lenny's version sucks)
5) Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix
6) Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin (M. Landon did not play on this track)
7) Unchained - Van Halen
8) Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith (Love In An Elevator would be a close 2nd)
9) Back In Black or Highway to Hell - AC/DC (kinda tied between those two)
10) War Pigs - Black Sabbath
11) Still Of The Night - Whitesnake

There are many more I can think of so this list isn't "official" by any means. In the spirit of Razz's top 11, I wanted to keep my list at 11 so that's the first tunes that came to my mind. bands like Metallica, The Who, Kiss, and others could easily make this list as it would be different a few months down the road.

That's really the whole problem in a nutshell: what is rock and roll?
Buddy Holly?
James Taylor?
Beatles?
Ramones?
NIN?
America?
Joan Jett?
Tiny Tim?

One guy's rock, may be another guy's roll. ;) When you think about it, it's really subjective. Looking at Razz's OP, and seeing phrases like "Best Kick Ass Rock and Roll" and "goes to 11", I think of those types of songs are the ones in my list.

But again this is subjective. Every list will be different.

The tracks Razz listed by Floyd, Zeppelin, and Skynyrd are awesome but they don't really rock out til towards the end of them. To me "kick ass" is probably akin to something you could headbang to, has a lot of crunching guitar, but is still somewhat mainstream. Sure you could headbang to some Slayer but their music isn't as mainstream as tracks by Motely Crue or Metallica.

Another example is Kansas compared to Yes. I think there's plenty of rocking out parts to "Roundabout", but there is no comparison to "Carry On Wayward Son".

Just vote on his pole and start another one!

Then we can take all the data and determine by the voters which is the top 10 and then vote on them for the top 5 and then vote on them for the best.

JUST VOTE!! :banana-rock: :music-rockout: :banana-dance:
