"Classic" movies to watch with my kids?

Thanks all! Great lists. Yes they've seen all Star Wars and LOTR/Hobbit.

Oh - Fletch - yeah that's gonna go near the top of the list. Personally I'd put the Three Amigos up there in that same genre, not because it's such a fantastic movie, but because I watched it a lot as a teen. (Would you say I have a PLETHORA of pinatas?)

PERFECT! I was literally thinking to myself, "I need to make a list of movies that my kids HAVE to see" when they're mature enough (I have a 12 and 9 year old).

lol Well that might actually keep us going until the pandemic is over, even!

Oh and thanks - Dances With Wolves is also way up there for me, both for the movie itself and also the music/soundtrack which I LOVE.

other movies she really liked were Uncle Buck, My Cousin Vinnie, Mud, Napoleon Dynamite, Crazy Rich Asians, Back to the Future.

Yup...but...there's more.
Spent a bit of time crosschecking some "Best of" lists...but I'm trying to compile a full list for future reference.
As I think of them, I'll add. There's plenty I have forgotten about that were "great to me" movies.

Yeah I've tried to find that - oh I see amazon prime has it, awesome! Definitely on the short list too.
I was kinda ambushed at one GTG at Bat's house, "What's your top ten favorite movies?"
Those two films were on my extemporaneous list.

It‘s a legitimate question ... with all due respect to DirtMerchant ... you can’t have more than 10 movies on an “All Time Great” list.

My problem, at the time, I wasn't sure I'd even seen ten movies; after reading this thread I'm probably at 25 or so.

My top ten more or less in order

True Romance
Dr Zhivago
To Have and Have Not
Lawrence of Arabia
Godfather
Casablanca
Barry Lyndon
Captain Blood
Saving Private Ryan
The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton version)

It would take one hell of a discussion with myself to find my Top10 All Time Great's.

Isn’t it just a list of good movies if you don’t?
A top ten isn’t unreasonable...
There are only four faces on Mt. Rushmore.
Only the top three finishers get a medal at the Olympics.

Not saying it's impossible. Just saying, it would take a sizeable amount time to really pick a Top 10, for me.
And, it's not something I've ever contemplated.
Maybe I'll spend some time during the pandemic picking a Top 10. Might eat up some time.

Just finished The Gods Must Be Crazy. I think the girls enjoyed it. I certainly did! Forgot how hysterical that movie is.

Of course, their first question anytime I bring a movie for them to watch is, "how old is this movie?" :tonguewink: Like anything not produced in the past ~5 years can't be all that great.

Some kids just have no appreciation for the classics.
