I use multiple subs only because me great room is so oddly shaped and to overcome null voids. I have a total of five subs but four are used as mid bass subs (I know Flint you dont consider them mid bass but for argument sake) and them my SVS with the dual 12's for the real heavy lifting. I get fantastic bass that is heard and the SVS handles the bass you feel.

Now my master bedroom system does great with just one sub but is also a square room.
