What's neat about this Japanese virtuoso is he wrings this beautiful music out of an instrument that virtually anyone can afford, and don't need an amp for... Back when music programs were funded in public schools we all learned to play recorders; I got to be pretty good on one but an equally-inexpensive instrument (the uke) on which I could've also played chords would've advanced my, and anyone else's, musical path so much faster...
I've resisted buying a uke myself; its tuned differently than fiddle/mandolin, which I do play, and I feel like it'd be like trying to learn to type on QWERTY and DVORAK keyboards simultaneously.
