Heeman's New DIY MTM Project

As predicted, weather has not allowed outside work.

I did glue up the baffles.

Damn. You are really inspiring me to get back to building speakers. I've got boxes of drivers and parts (nothing high end) just waiting for me. I'm sure I'll get a bunch built as soon as I replace all of my floors with hardwood, repaint the inside of the house, renovate the kitchen, and finish setting up my shop. Okay, that might take awhile. :(

The weather today was good enough to router the rabets. .

These are the dry fit for the speaker stands, which are the same dimensions as the woofer cabinets except for the depth..

Work continued yesterday and today. The first stand is glued up!

Flint recommend that we turn the stands into a resonator trap. The rectangular opening is designed to trap 98Hz where I have a huge null at the MLP.

Busy day!

Stand #2 has been glued up.

All parts for the midrange boxes (truncated Tee-Pee) are cut and routered.

All fit up nicely. Should be gluing them up tomorrow.

Dumb question. Are these JUST glued together or are there fasteners somewhere that I don't see?

So there has been an itch to scratch after learning so much about this hobby and on our 3rd Home Theater in a decade.

Retirement has been treating me very well.

My current system performs extremely well mainly because of what I have been able to do with optimizing my dedicated room acoustically.

After Franklin built his Ellipticor MTM's, I have been consulting with him on and off about how to improve on the clear, detailed sound that can perform better the Dynaudio C1's that are currently my main speakers.

Well, I have been working with Franklin on a design, the drivers have been purchased and the MDF cutting should start later this week!

This will be an MTM Design using the Ultra-Low Distortion Purifi Midrange drivers and Morel TSCT Tweeters. These will be paired with my existing Scan Speak Revelator Woofers that I built a few years back that was well documented on this forum.

If there is interest here, I will do my best to document this project.

I am sure that Franklin will chime in here at some point.
It seems to me that MDF is very common in building speakers, and I think I understand why. So, it comes down to the parts that actually move the air. How did you make the decision for choosing the midrange and tweeters that you chose? And I guess the woofers for that matter. Seems there would be a myriad of choices??

Flint is the designer. @Flint

The goal was to outperform my C1's by 2X.

The tee-pee is giving me Wilson Audio vibes! Can't wait to see these take shape!

Are you going to finish one complete speaker at a time or are you building both in parallel? Apologies if already stated.

When your new speakers are complete I'll take those crappy underperforming C1's off you hands hahahah
Ha! The C1's are fantastic, however it did take me awhile to enjoy their sound. When you go from average performing speakers to their level, there is an adjustment period for sure.

I will be selling the C1's at a very fair price!

Started filling the Midrange Boxes to get ready for primer. Probably one more coat to go after the next sanding.

Also rounded over the corners on the stands......

Lots of work!

You retired fuckers have way too much time on your hands.
