Logitech is selling off Harmony

The problem with Harmony is that so many remotes are now going Blu-Tooth and IP that IR is no longer universal. They'll need to fix that.
 
programming one via tablet is what you need, some dont have pc's or macs to program one with
 
I suspect that the next generation of receivers will be network connected and designed to be controlled by smartphone, PC or tablet.
 
Logitech should introduce a Harmony One with fewer hard buttons, more soft buttons and call it Touch.

I'm finding out fast that there's an opportunity for a company to swoop in and bridge the gap between a Harmony (with its functional limitations but ease of programming) and something more in line with URC (with its nearly unlimited functionality but near-requirement to call in a specialist)...if IP based control is to take off, the MFRs will need to adopt a standard.

How large a market share would that software/hardware combination net the developer/manufacturer? I guess the $64,000.000 question is how large is that market?

With their data base not even listing Bluray players as an option, this is probably something they have wanted to do for awhile.

When adding a device just select DVD and adding a blu-ray player is no problem. I have an LG in one system and a Sony in another and no issues at all getting them configured...

Yeah, that's what I do, but you would think that as long as bluray has been around, it would be in there by now.
 
Yeah it seems that the next big things in components is IP control. Make everything IP contolled VIA HDMI and then ethernet from the receiver. Or make everythign wireless. Most eveything I have already is. Xbox, bluray, wii. Shouldn't be hard to integrate.
 
I'm probably being unrealistic, but my whole system is IR-capable and I was hoping it'd last 30 years like my first system did, and would like to have support for the Harmony (which will probably be the first thing to go...). :shifty:
 
I have no expectations of anything but amplifiers lasting 30 years due to the rapid changes in technology. I've got remote control apps for my Roku and Squeezebox on my smartphone. I ultimately expect that will be the direction. There will be no remotes. You'll just use your phone or tablet.
 
^ I agree that smartphone and tablet based remote apps are the future, but separate MFR apps aren't gonna cut it in regards to creating macros etc. Switching from one app to the next is nearly as cumbersome as putting down one remote and picking up another.
 
I think the ultimate solution will be higher dollar remote control apps for smartphones and tablets.

Also if I can swing the trip up to one of my distributors Tuesday (received an invite for Onkyo and DefTech rep meet&greet) I was promised some one on one time to look at URCs app based products...
 
:laughing-lettersrofl: I'm not interested in paying a grand to try it. I have a distributor that carries Gefen, but they don't have a SKU for it yet...I'm hoping cost is in the $500-650 range.
