Mancave

Initial reactions:

1. Ooo a castle. Ooo a castle. Ooo a castle...

2. Did you mount Shakespeare productions on that stage, or just what occupied all that space?

3. I bet having matching speakers all around sounds very good.

4. Only one sub!? (Said in a Matt-like voice.)

5. It's hard to tell: is the trophy for Rumba or football?

6. Next time I'm in your area code...

:)

Jeff

Yup. You suck.

Awesome room Deacon. Killer mancave.
How much has the sound improved with your speaker upgrade?

Holy Optical Illusion, Batman!
Deacon, I think you'd posted that very first pic before, and I couldn't tell how it was set up; looked like you'd cut a hole in one room's wall, and looking in on the "theater" room, and then the blue screen to the left looked like a doorway in the back (granted, I'm looking at a 13" screen and I'm going blind).
Only with the subwoofer shot can I see that it's a "bay" sunk into one wall. Very cool! But wow, that had me confused!

Oooo.... Lovely!

You have an amazing opportunity to install very affordable and simple bass traps in empty space behind that "window wall". Let me know if you want ideas on how to accomplish that.

Here is what the room looked like before (stealing a pic ~B~ posted awhile back).

And the matching speakers do sound much better but I can't tell you how much of a difference just the speakers are making cause I changed out the receiver also. Be that...there is a big difference in the sound and general soundfield is more enveloping.

One sub, but two drivers!

That is the football trophy from the first Championship we won when I was coaching.

I'm waiting for you to make your way down south!

That is the last thing I need to do. My initial thoughts on this so far...

You can see the panels (blue) that are just currently leaning against the walls. There are 2 behind the mains and on the sides of the 'window wall'. I am going to put a frame around them and wrap them in brown fabric.
I was going to hang them in the spots where they are leaning just above the 'stage floor'.

I was going to put up corner bass traps right above the sub and in the back corner of the room above the fish tank using that foam that I asked you about earlier.

It will look like this:

Nicely done. Do you have any issue with hearing the fish tanks during quiet moments in movies? I have a 50 gallon in the foyer to my living room that I turn off while I listen to music.

Just like Botch, I got confused by depth perception optical illusions. At first I thought the equipment was in the darkened next room, looking through a well fitted wall cutout. Then I thought I was looking at a mirror -- confusing. Only after seeing the sixth picture did I realize that everything was instead in a large wall alcove. :) Very nice.

The filters are very quiet but I do have to keep the tank filled to the top. If too much water evaporates and the water level gets low you can her the water running over the edge of the filter and splashing as it hits the lower level.

This looks really nice Deacon! Be proud!

How do you like the BA bookshelves all the way around? Would you recommend?

Excellent set up Deacon. The speaker stands for the mains, look like some vibration absorbing ones I saw earlier this year AXPONA.

Great job Deacon!! I'll always remember that room and the visit being my first GTG!
