Sowwy about not yet answering you both.

Pauly, guilty as charged...

Yesfan, you've already nailed the major difference. Less synths, more strings, a la Mr. Foster. Still great songs and vocal performances.

Looking forward to hearing it.

A new group from Canada I think, Abandon All Ships - Greeving. They're a mix of techno and metal. For some strange reason I'm really digging it. I HATE techno, but love my metal. It blends surprisingly well together.

I admit, I got this one based on the writeup in a recent issue of S&V mag. (Yeah, I still get that...)

This album seems to have gotten mixed reviews, and I think I understand why. First, it's not really a Santana album, in that none of the songs are his; they're all covers. So if you're looking for a regular Santana album, this isn't it. Secondly, he re-interprets slightly these "classics" (though some are way more classic than others, IMHO), so if you're a purist and know the originals well, I can see how you might react negatively.

Fortunately, I fall into neither of these camps, so I actually like this album a lot. Lots of guest artists, someone different featured on each song. Interesting mix of songs. Not as guitar-centric/heavy as you might expect given the title and the main artist. Good music, interesting take on some - like "Sunshine of Your Love" with a latin drumbeat behind it. It actually works pretty well, to me. Their version of Back in Black is way better than the original, but I always hated AC/DC.

Anyone else have this one, and would like to comment?

Thanks for the writeup, I've been considering that one too...

Yesterday was the anniversary of the Death of Keith Moon, one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. He died in 1978.

They're playing a concert at Wembley on Palladia, most of the band left the stage, two guests came one, Jimmie Page and John Paul Jones !!!!! Grohl took the drum throne and the drummer grabbed the mic, and they launched into "Rock n Roll"!
