What Are You Listening To?

Electro Deluxe - Hopeful

1248060606_600.jpg

The only reasonably-priced CD by Electro Deluxe on Amazon (I posted a video on a separate thread from Farcebook). I think I ordered it via Prime on Friday, and I got a message back that said this particular album was "manufactured on-demand CD-R's" which doesn't concern me but I didn't expect it to come within the two-day Prime promise.
It did. I've only now had time to listen to it; killer!
Unfortunately the CD "booklet" has no info on the band. The duotone pic on the front only shows a sextet, its only a couple/few horn players, not the huge horn section in the video I posted. Vocalists (male/female) are good, and the drummer/keyboardist/bass smoke! Its not the band in the video I posted, but have no regrets on this purchase.

Time to hit Amazon/Wiki and really learn what this band is about.

Wow. There's not a single entry in Wikipedia about these guys. And there is but a single entry about their three CDs on Amazon. I could get the remaining two for about $80; good thing its bedtime...

No-L, the album you downloaded: does it have a big-band lineup, or is it more of a sextet-fusion lineup?

Sextet-Fusion/R&B with WAY more studio horns than a usual recording, but not quite full Big Band.

It's fantastic!

Saw these two on Stephen Colbert the other night.
David Byrne from Talking Heads and Annie Clark.
Very strange. Compelling in a "can't stop staring at the mutant" kind of way!

Hmmmm. His profile says his last visit on the forum was a few minutes ago. And he changed his avatar back from his halloween one.
Maybe he he is avoiding us!

This is a really great album.

Dang you! I'm a big Chris Thile fan, but I don't yet have this album or the previous one yet. (Been spending all my cash on hip-hop, I guess.) Say... did you see where Chris Thile was awarded one of those MacArthur Fondation genius grants?

I have all three Punch Brothers albums now; the one I like best is their first one - Punch. But they're all good!
