So, what games do you like for your smartphone/tablet? Just curious if there are some hidden gems out there I should check out.

So far, I think the ones I like best (on my Nexus 7) are Bad Piggies (same maker as Angry Birds), and Broken Sword.

Bad Piggies is cool because it's less about the finesse of your aim and timing, and more about strategy. There's still some timing involved as you have to "drive" the little vehicles that you build. But the building is the important part, and the challenges on each level can be addressed mostly separately, so it's actually possible to get 3 stars on every level.

Broken Sword is a port of one of the older graphic adventure games from the early 90's, where you play a couple of characters in modern day Paris investigating murders and Templars (and this was made before Templars were such a common theme). Good plot, some humor, and the game lasts a good long time.

Angry Birds is decent, but I get tired of it more quickly. Not enough variety, even with 4 different versions.

Cut the Rope seems to be kind of amusing, haven't played it as much but have done some. Again it's largely timing-dependent, which is a sort of game I'm not generally as fond of.

What do you like?

A friend of mine suggested Subway Surfer a few weeks back, but at the time, it was an idevice game only. See it's on the android marketplace for free now. Pretty decent game.

Angry Birds, original and Seasons by leaps and bounds. The only good piggy is a dead piggy.

Rope

The only game I have on my phone is Unblock Me. It's a puzzle game where you have to free the target block by moving other blocks that either move up & down or left & right.

gonna check that one out...

Free version of Chess on my iPad. I love chess and play on the most difficult setting and have only won two games but love the challenge. I used to play a version of chess on my old Panasonic 3DO game system that when you attacked a player it would give you a short video clip of the two pieces battling each other. Wish they had that in a portable version.

Zynga (the words with friends people) hav a chess with friends game so you can play with people from all over the place.

If you are into word games W.E.L.D.E.R. Is very good and challenging.

I like several Mah Jong games that are basically matching pairs of tiles/cards in different configurations.

I don't know if it is available on Android but Coco Loco is a fav of mine on iDevices.

Battleship, great game very much like the board game.

Civilization: Revolution
I can not tell you how many hours I've wasted playing that game....

currently playing 'Rock the Vegas',

i missed games like these, and well, was hoping to see if anyone can suggest something similar on the android market.

similar to warcraft and starcraft...

Quell is a very nice "pure puzzle" game, made for adults but interestingly my 5yo loves it - and she's surprisingly good at it. "Where's My Perry" is also a clever game.

The great thing about these tablet apps is that they're so inexpensive, you can try stuff without risking a lot of $$.

one thing i try to avoid is 'paying' for stuff with real money. you know, the whole 'coins' thing that you can accumulate slowly, painfully slowly, that you end up buying with real cash.

Agreed, I hate the games that offer to let you buy "powerups" with real money. That's just obnoxious.

I have an Android phone, but maybe some of these are available on iOS, too?

I like the "Zeus" and "Reel Rich Devil" slot machine apps. These are authentic casino games by WMS. The apps cost about three bucks, but after that it's all just pretend money. You can also take your pretend money and compete in tournaments online.

"NBA Jam" is an EA Sports title that I like. (Boom-shack-a-lacka! Is it the shoes??!!!!). I got it on sale for 99 cents, but normally it's $5.00.
"Video Poker" by Syberius is a cool retro-looking video draw poker game (free).
"Supersonic" by Kuuasema is one of those games where you tilt the device in order to avoid obstacles in a tunnel.
"Cheezia: Gears of Fur" is a short platformer that sort of reminds me of Super Mario. (Free demo, but need to pay for full game.)

and

Frogger Free, Tetris Free, and Pinball Deluxe (free version).

Oh... and "Battle Bears: Zombies"

Blast teddy bears that are trying to hug you to death! Hilarious cut scenes. I've only got the demo for right now. I'll have to play it more before deciding if it's worth a purchase. It did force close on me once so far.

I just checked out Quell. Nice, low-key game. I like it.
If you like Quell you might also enjoy CubicMan.
