What??? Home Depot selling Acoustic Panels???

I have a feeling that the custom home theater installer market motivated this, since a lot of the other building materials are usually sourced through Home Depot.

Out in the real world, many people are gushing over Apple's new "high fidelity" Alexa clone, and are probably unaware that the science of acoustics even exists. Its kind of sad that in this day and age we even need articles like this:

CEDIA has spent the past decade focused on installed sound quality, including acoustics principles like placement, room acoustics control, and so on. I imagine when all the CEDIA member sales people started talking about this stuff it caught on and even interior designers are starting to get it.

Pigs are freezing and Hell is flying? (wait, swap those around)

So I was scanning through a website and saw an banner ad for Auralex panels at Home Depot. I thought it was some fluke or one off, but their website has an entire section on acoustic panels, including diffusor panels.

Has all our hard work promoting acoustics paid off?

Apparently pigs are only freezing and hell is only flying in the USA. No joy in the frozen North version of Home Despot!!

I just bought some Roxul safe 'n' sound from Home Depot this weekend and made myself 12 panels.

Here are some photos of the panels I made. I bought roxul safe n sound from home depot. I used burlap and micro-suede for the fabric. Not hard at all to make and it's definitely worth it if you haven't done so yet. I'm going to work on wire management next.

And did you notice any difference in sound?

I did. The main things I noticed was the bass sounds tighter to me and I feel I can listen at lower volume without feeling I'm missing anything. I also feel like I'm more engaged with music and movies with the panels up. I don't feel like the sound is everywhere in the room.

Spendy little suckers! Don't you have a DIY panel thread on here?

And that's where Keith quit reading...walked off mumbling to himself...and poured a Bakers.

Millions of years from now, if this is the first bit of human text discovered by aliens who happen upon our barren lifeless planet, their first response will be WTF?!

We, on the other hand, understand your pain explicitly and commiserate with you.

:)

I can see the aliens now... "What? Pneumatic nailers are clearly available locally in the vast majority of areas. Flying to California for a new one is just unnecessary and wasteful."
