Anyone else try "Vudu" streaming on their PS3?

How does the audio sound? When streaming stuff on Hulu or the networks I is usually pretty compressed and not in Dolby Digital 5.1 (since I do this on a laptop hooked up to the TV). Is it the same with this considering it uses the PS3s HDMI? I still think watching Blu ray is much better, also...

    Eartones?

The hiss in that sample file, which I didn't make, isn't quite what I hear either (it isn't that loud as well). I was referring to the tone only in that file. The hiss was there because when that type of tone "turns on" usually hearing mutes a bit in the ear (like earplugs are put in while the...

    Eartones?

"Tinnitus is the ringing, buzzing, crackling, or hissing sound heard inside one or both ears. Sufferers of tinnitus can experience a wide variety of noise, the severity of which ranges from minor annoyance to debilitating pain." - http://healing.about.com/cs/conditions/a/tinnitus.htm I'm not...

    Eartones?

By low level hiss I mean low in volume not frequency. The hiss is a constant high frequency hiss kind of like pink noise from 10-15khz, with maybe around 13-14khz being more prominent. A whistle is kind of similar I guess, but calling what I have ringing is not (doesn't pulsate). But I wasn't...

    Eartones?

Anybody get these? I probably have one every month or two or so. Hard to say. Sometimes a long time goes by without them, sometimes, I get them more often. It's kind of random. But nevertheless, pretty infrequent. I found this (click hear to download MP3)online which pretty much nails the sound...

Third Generation SVS M series speakers

Excuse me if this has been discussed before but... They have changed the crossovers, tweeter, and woofers. Has anyone heard these yet? http://svsound.com/products-spks-mts02.cfm I also noticed this thread over at home theater shack where Ron Stimpson from SVSound comments on the new design...

Transient peaks with REW and RS meter

Okay, now that I'm using a proper mic, couldn't it and REW be used to determine how well a system can handle dynamic (transient) peaks? For example take a look at this SPL logging of my office setup playing the 1812 overture (telarc 2001 CD track of the SACD). The SPL being measured is...

    Small Speaker Kool-Aid

This is an interesting concept as I'm considering replacing my Athena AS-F2's (dual 8" woofers, box size 9.5 x 41.5 x 15.5) with the smaller Dynaudio Countor S 1.4 (6.7" woofer, box size 7.4 x 15.9 x 14.2"). I realize overall the Dynaudio's will sound much better, but would the sense of scale...

SPL logging with REW - cool!

The program has a signal generator including pink noise. You simply pull out the SPL meter, turn the volume up to a certain level (i.e. 75dB, though you can set this to whatever you want) and calibrate the microphone. From then on (at the same input level) the mic + program will function as an...

SPL logging with REW - cool!

I just found out that REW has an SPL logging function. For example, below you'll see the 2nd set of cannon blasts towards the end of the 1812 overture. The Red and blue lines represent the Peak SPL (red) and Minimum Fast (blue) levels. The yellow is the Maximum Fast SPL. The black trace is the...

My office setup (Audioengine A2, SVS 20-39PCI)

Well I finally setup the sub and measured the desk chair response. The room is 12x10x8 sealed. ...and this is compared with my main room (light blue is using DIY WM-61A generic calibration, which I used in the office measurements too): Not too bad for a second system!

Realtek HD Audio Sound Manager - anyone use this with a Sub?

My built in soundcard on my desktop uses the Realtek HD Audio Sound Manager. I am trying to hook up my sub and select 5.1 without the center or surrounds. The thing is I'm having trouble because the Center and Subwoofer connect are together on a stereo 3.5mm plug. I have a 3.5mm to RCA plugs...

Onkyo 708 - has a nice noise floor.

Not sure if you are in the market but I found this today: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K51IPI/ref=ord_cart_shr?t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20&ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER It's very similar to the 708. Doesn't have Satellite radio, RS232, 1 less HDMI, 10 less watts. But otherwise very similar...

    Desktop vs. Laptop soundcards

Yep some DSP was on. I found out when trying to calibrate SPL, almost all volume levels were somewhat similar despite adjusting the signal SPL by 10-20dBs. I forgot that I had my wife's niece over last week and she was watching a movie on the PC. I turned on the "Loudness Equalizer" setting so...

    Desktop vs. Laptop soundcards

I'm not sure how to do that with this program. All graphs with a mic are what the actual SPL measured is (after mic level calibration). And I agree with no mic attached (and just a loop back from the output), I'm not sure what the SPL level means. I just know it is lower than the other PC.

I had the wrong setting on the desktop, here is the correct 1/48th octave RTA with noise shown. The other graphs was the "spectrum" setting.

    Desktop vs. Laptop soundcards

I'll keep that in mind, but I'll probably just use the laptop to make measurements. I don't notice any issues when listening to music though. The build in sound card has a pretty low noise floor as well as seen in the graph below (note I modified the calibration file to roll off below 3hz and...

    Desktop vs. Laptop soundcards

Well, here is my Dell desktop response prior to calibration (using the front mic and headphone jacks): I find this more disturbing then my laptop which again, is the following: The reason I measured my desktop is that I have an office system (that will soon be getting my SVS 20-39). I...
