I remember alternative music being The Residents, Laurie Anderson, and such. Alternative meant different and definitely not mainstream. Today there are Alternative radio stations playing music off the Billboard top 100 list! How can that be? Even my step-son's lousy post-emo pop/punk band (think Blink 182 or Fall Out Boy) honestly believe they are "alternative" and argue with anyone who challenges that notion.
ARG!
Today's alternative should be Half-Handed Cloud, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Koenji Hyakkei
RANT OFF

I really liked "Turn On The Bright Lights", but quite honestly I haven't gotten into anything they've done since.
