I'm a big fan and I like most of their stuff. But I'm in the minority, universally, their first two albums are well regarded, but the last one along with this latest release, not so much...I'll be picking up the new one today expecting to be in the minority again.
Okay after a couple of turns with the new Interpol CD, I have to say this is a bigger letdown than I even anticipated...I can see why their 3rd album turned off some fans but I still really liked that one a lot. But this one is nowhere near the homerun that "Turn On the Bright Lights" was and still is...Still a big fan but sorely disappointed with this effort

I remember alternative music being The Residents, Laurie Anderson, and such. Alternative meant different and definitely not mainstream. Today there are Alternative radio stations playing music off the Billboard top 100 list! How can that be? Even my step-son's lousy post-emo pop/punk band (think Blink 182 or Fall Out Boy) honestly believe they are "alternative" and argue with anyone who challenges that notion.

At least the section at my music store seems to keep up with the times (a judgment made up my very little understanding of the matter).
Speaking of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum... If you dig them, I think you'll the Vialka I posted in the "What are you listening to now" section.
Picked this up today, "Xx" another group I've been exposed to on Alt Nation (Sirius/XM) Hard to compare them to anyone, but I LOVE this disc, I've listened to the entire album 2-3 times today.

As far as alternative, I think it's anything that really doesn't fit into any specific category and is broadly defined. Now indie music is more of the moniker for the different stuff....of course the snob bloggers dismiss it when it gets heard by more than 8 art heads.
Minus the Bear is a pretty good band. Been enjoying Bonobo, Brad Sucks and Zero 7 lately.

Hmmm, no comments on my AWOLNation post (they just started getting regular playing time on the Alt station here in KC) so let's try something that has no chance of getting on the radio. This song has come up a couple of times on Pandora and I decided to check out the video on YouTube. It's, uh, a little different...

Picked-up Awolnation's Megalithic Symphony today, the song Sail is not really representative of the tone of the rest of the album. It's the kind of album that needs time to grow on you but somehow becomes more enjoyable as familiarize yourself with all the tracks...
