CLASSICAL Music

AyseDeniz GOKCIN, whom I've not heard of before.

I've been obsessed with this piece for a few weeks, and have finally memorized El Amor y la Muerte (Ballada), the 5th part of the Goyescas piano suite by Enrique Granados. One of the most gorgeous pieces I've ever played. Hard to learn though - no key signature and approximately 50 accidentals per measure.

Hopefully I can remember all those note in "real time" while actually playing it!

For those not familiar, this is pretty much the definitive version, IMHO.

We're doing this (with harp) in church for our (pre-) Christmas concert. Not a work I was familiar with before, but it's growing on me quickly. The harp solo around 12:40 is really amazing, this is a stunning performance.

Thanks for mentioning that.

When ordering I could not help notice that Angele Dubeau appears to have quite an extensive catalogue.

OMG... and I don't use that acronym lightly. This is amazing.

(And yes I came across this while watching The Sopranos - season 3 episodes 11-12. They have good taste.)

I learned something today; Eric Carmen ripped off Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 for his seminal hit All By Myself.

You hear just a tickle of it right about 2:15, then the full theme in the second movement at about 13:30.

And, COOL, a hummingbird just hovered over my laptop screen for about 5 seconds just now (I'm cooling off in the shade after mowing, and eating frozen grapes). Maybe hummingbirds like Rach?

EDIT: And now a woodpecker was making holes in my Apple tree less than 10' away. Maybe I gotta look into those portable speakers and load up on Rachmaninoff?

Downloaded this from HD Tracks. Just shut up and buy it. The recording quality is generally great however there is not much depth to the soundstage. Cecilia Bartoli is wonderful, as is the violoncello.

Thanks. Am downloading a copy now.

I know this doesn't belong here, but my point is to pay back rammis for his recommendation above, by offering one up in kind.

So it's not "classical" but it is certainly "classic." And it's just-released in 2017.

I was tearing up the whole way through it. I cannot imagine a more perfect singer / entertainer / performer than Ella.
