Kristina Trian, another one of my favorites:

I'm going to have to go back through all the posts eventually, but so far there's probably a few artists that have been mentioned that I'd never heard of before. (Thought Kristina Train was one of them until I checked and saw that I have her Spilt Milk (2009) in my collection.)

As I said in the OP, I could probably dump out a list of hundreds all at once, but this is something to be savoured, rather than gorged on.

For today, I'm going to feature a Canadian, and one who has just won this year's Polaris Music Prize for her album Power in the Blood: 74 year-old Buffy Sainte-Marie. A phenomenal performer, composer, vocalist, protester, and cultural icon.

I'll post two videos. The first is from the Polaris event itself. The second gives you a much better example of her vocal range and style that has characterized her music throughout her career.

I randomly stumbled on this lady when Amazon recommended her to me after buying some other albums. She has a low, dark, sultry voice and an amazing band and a raw energy that drives me crazy.

Tanita Tikaram

The lovely Rebecca Pidgeon. She was an occasional actress on The Unit who had a terrible American accent so I researched who she was. I discovered she had a strong music career. She reminds me of the groegous French female singers who sing very simple songs VERY well and seemingly completely effortless, as in this amazing live video of her performing Spanish Harlem.

^ Chesky Ultimate Demo Disc 1.

Song one is Rebbeca Pidgeon - Spanish Harlem..........quite amazing!!

I'm not going to add much to this, but...

my personal favorite female singer is Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde

Or if you're more in an alternative mood, Holly Golightly

Or if you're more in a punk mood, Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill (originally, but a few since)

or maybe new wavish with Blondie

or, to me, the underrated Cyndi Lauper

Finally, for something that fuses a LOT of styles together, China Forbes from Pink Martini

I think I remember discussing this on another thread, but when that song came out I did not care for it at all. Now, when I hear I REALLY DIG that tune, mostly due to Johnette Napolitano's incredible vocals. What a great tune.

A very moving piece of music.

I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for Imogen Heap.

Batman, I just watched a Jeff Beck bluray & Imogen Heap was a guest on a couple songs. She can really sing & gets into the music with all her heart. Any sugestions on some of her music ?

^--- I have a couple of Imogen's albums. I like "Speak for Yourself" very much. "Ellipse" ... not so great IMHO.

Tal Wilkenfeld
This young Australian lady can play the bass. Here's a link with a little info & a video with Tal & Jeff playing the bass together:

A year ago I started a thread on Coeur de Pirate (stage name of Beatrice Martin) - an amazing young Quebec chanteuse.

I've been following her music for a few years and I think I've got copies of everything released that she's appeared on (her own albums, hers in collaboration, and those where she contributes vocals on a track or two.) Her first two albums are in French - but can be enjoyed by all. Her collaboration (with "Bedouin Soundclash's" Jay Malinowski - group name "Armistice") is an English EP. Her third album "Trauma" contains English songs she did for a TV series.

The combination of her terrific voice, her personality and her looks makes her truly mignone - beyond cute.

She's got a new album Roses out, on which she performs in both French and English. Here's something really neat: the same song done in both English and French.

Which do you prefer?
