I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for Imogen Heap.

Batman, I just watched a Jeff Beck bluray & Imogen Heap was a guest on a couple songs. She can really sing & gets into the music with all her heart. Any sugestions on some of her music ?
^--- I have a couple of Imogen's albums. I like "Speak for Yourself" very much. "Ellipse" ... not so great IMHO.
She also sings for Frou Frou. I actually heard of them, before I heard of her from the Garden State soundtrack.

I've just added three new "female" albums to my collection.

I've long been a fan of the B-52's. I saw them live a few years ago and they were a blast. I'm pretty sure that what I liked the most about them was how well Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson's voices worked together. But it's been a bit of a dry spell for some time as far as new B-52's material goes. So imagine my ear-to-ear grin to discover Kate Pierson's first solo CD Guitars and Microphones (2015). From the opening track (listen below) onward it's chock-a-block pop/rock/new wave fun.

If you like your pop stars cute, then you surely love Canada's Carly Rae Jepsen. She had that one big hit, but, to be fair, a lot of her other songs were quite good as well. Well she's got a new album out: E-Mo-Tion (2015). It's all pop all the time - but if you like the genre you'll like this one. I did find the sound to be overly bass-centric and compressed, but that cute Carly voice more than made up for it.

I'm a pretty big fan of Canada's New Pornographers, and Neko Case, who has been with the band since its inception, and who has a number of albums of her own. But this is not about them, or her. This is about that other NP female vocalist, Kathryn Calder. I am embarrassed to say that, up until today, I did not know that she had been releasing solo albums of her own. I've been sampling her brand new self-titled release and am really enjoying her sound. I've ordered a copy of her previous CD, as well as a copy of one from Immaculate Machine, another group she was once with. I'd call this a very nice "discovery" for me.

This is amusing to me. I can't stand the B-52's, mainly because of the terrible way their almost-but-not-quite-in-tune "unison" vocals sound like a screetching cat clawing at a blackboard; UGH!!!

I need to cue up some Radiohead now and let their beautiful dulcet tones sweep me away to a more beautiful place. :teasing-tease:

Has Dusty Springfield been mentioned yet? This is one of my favorite songs:

While it probably deserves a thread of its own, it is nevertheless appropriate to note within this thread that Adele's latest album 25 is due out on November 20th.

Here's a first cut (filmed in Montreal)...

ps. November 20th is also the date for Enya's upcoming release Dark Sky Island.

Grace Potter started out as a contractor and has an article about using reclaimed wood in the Oct issue of Popular Mechanics.

She looks damn good in a toolbelt.

Hah! How about that!

So I took the time to scan through all the posts on this thread and I've got to say ... we've barely scratched the surface so far folks!

There have been some amazing female artists mentioned (actually they're all great in my books), but there's lots more out there.

I was at my local library today and scanned through the CDs for sale section - basically donated CDs (and video, and books) sold dirt cheap by the library to raise extra funds. CDs sell for $1 each. As well as finding a pristine copy of the 40th anniversary remaster of Strange Days by The Doors, I happened upon pop/rock/punk Canadian Bif Naked's Essentially Naked - a 22 song greatest hits collection (and 13 track DVD).

The lead song is Rich and Filthy (2003). Here's the video.

A favourite female artist of mine for a few years now is American Lissie. I'm still kicking myself for not travelling to Montreal a couple of weeks ago to see her play live. (Note to self: next time go!) Anyhow, another more recent favourite is England's Ellie Goulding. Well it was a really nice treat to come across this video of them performing live together.

Keep 'em coming folks!

Jeff

This is something to look forward to: a Neko Case / KD Lang / Laura Veirs collaboration - coming out in June.

A track to wet the appetite. Absolutely gorgeous voices!

For the last day I've been spinning Elle King's Love Stuff. There's much more to it than the lead single Ex's and Oh's. Some pretty gritty sounding blues rock pop throughout. Fantastic debut album.

That does sound good, make sure to mention it in June! :handgestures-thumbup:

CBS Morning News always features a musical artist on Saturday mornings, today it was Cyndi Lauper, who's just released her second album of country music. She hasn't changed her appearance at all (weird dress, purple hair, and dancing like an MTV pop star), the sound of the band was pure country (despite the awful fiddle solos from a keyboard) but she sang in a not-at-all-country style; it didn't do anything for me. :handgestures-thumbdown:

Even with only two albums under her belt (and another coming soon) Hayley Sales has captured and kept my attention for nearly a decade. Whenever I just want to chill, feel free, and enjoy life, I spin one of them. Here's the first song I ever heard of hers - while on an Ontario road trip / vacation back in 2007.

I'm not a huge fan of Euro-Pop, but I've recently "discovered" Mylene Farmer, a Canadian performer who was brought up in France where she has become hugely successful. I say discovered because even though she's been around for a couple of decades I'd never heard of her before.

While her studio albums are good, I think she's got a great voice for large concert venues.

Luckily there's lots of live clips of her from past performances - for example...

- and her Timeless 2013 concert Blu-ray is quite good.

On title alone this song's my fave...

Don't know exactly why but she reminds me of Tori Amos.

Talking about new discoveries...

Just acquired the live CD/DVD called "Sur La Route" by a French chanteuse who goes by the name Zaz.

Here's a sample of her stuff - which I really really like. Think jazz, cabaret, and French pop rolled into one - with a really interesting voice.

I've just ordered the rest of her entire catalogue: studio and live albums!

You know this is good stuff when Gen sits through most of the DVD of "Sur La Route" and says she really enjoys it!
