Godzilla

Newest trailer shows a bunch more footage of other monsters. Wish they would focus on established critters/foes from decades of lore. Don't see the need to keep introducing new ones (Shimo, MUTO's, Skar King, etc.) at least not until they have properly payed homage to some of the greats (Megalon, Gigan, Destroyah, Hedorah, etc.).

Unrelated but related... going to check out this movie this weekend starring Sakura Ando who was great in her role as the neighbor in Godzilla Minus One. She just won the Japanese equivalent of Best Actress Oscar for her role in Monster.

Looking more and more like an all out action romp. I am fine with that. Got IMAX tickets for tomorrow night.

Movie was meh IMO. Don’t get me wrong it had plenty of epic IMAX monster action and eye candy cinematography. Glad I went. But it’s just hard change gears after the brilliance of Minus One straight to the fluff WWE action style of this one. It was fun just a little silly by comparison.

Saw G x K tonight with wife and stepson. I wasn’t expecting much at all and was actually enjoying it more than expected……UNTIL…..right after Kong gets his ”upgrade”….for me it went right to shit at that point and I was counting down to leave. My stepson, who’s 7, loved it and my wife enjoyed it, so it was still worth the view.

A couple hours earlier my local server went Tango-Uniform and I lost all intranetz. I figured out how to switch my new Bravia onto my old OTA antenna, and was able to pick up a local station, and it was tuned to a very old Godzilla movie, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", 1957. Was mostly filmed in Japan but did have, I think, Raymond Burr in it (much lighter and sans wheelchair).
Much balsa was harmed in the making of this film (don't banninate me, I've never seen any godzilla flick except for a brief bit of Godzilla meets Mothra, back in college). There was a weak side-love story in this film, and the scientist involved showed his arranged-marriage fiancè the "oxygen-depletion" potion he invented, and one drop killed and dissolved an aquarium full of fish. "Oxygen-depletion".... where have I just heard that term, really recently??
The high-voltage lines around Tokyo didn't kill him, but it appears that's where Godzilla got his flame-breath, ice-breath, and spine-plates that could glow. He beat up Tokyo bad, then retreated to the bay again. Loser-guy in the love triangle finally agreed to use his Oxygen depletion to kill it, and it was a physical device, whose outline was just tattooed onto Hot Monkey's arm; the coincidence/timing here is kinda freaking me out.
Loser-guy detonated the oxygen depletion device, then cut his cables to the ship. Godzilla swam to the surface, had enough air in his lungs to roar one time, but then supposedly asphyxiated (after he surfaced?!?)
Odd evening here.

And, the local channel that I watched this on (called "Comet"), kept playing in the background, and the very next show was the first episode of "The X-Files", which I've never seen. I could get caught up in that...

Godzilla Minus One just hit Netflix today which is great but unfortunately there is no option to watch it in original 5.1 Japanese with correct simple English theatrical subtitles… only with full CC subtitles with (IMO) way too much descriptive content making it very distracting if not impossible to read the dialogue amongst all the “sound of wind rustling”, “heavy sigh”, etc. Hopefully there are better viewing options on Amazon or I’ll just wait for the BluRay release.

EDIT: Magically overnight the simplified theatrical English subtitle option was added thankfully. I had jumped on Netflix late last night to confirm the movie was there… my wife checked it this morning and the subtitle issue was resolved.

Thank you!!!!!
Guess what I'm doing tonight

Came with a little booklet of photos and drawings from the movie including the sketches the scientists made showing how to sink Godzilla in the bay. Could make for very good small tattoos. Hmmm.

So the 13 minutes of extra footage turned out to be pre and post feature directors interview and documentary material. Great to see but we were a little disappointed that it wasn’t added in movie content or a directors cut like we thought it was going to be. Still very happy to be able to see this great film on the big screen one more time (that makes seven viewings).

Who knows if this is real...but...enjoy your vacation in Japan @HotMonkey

Nestled on Japan’s Awaji Island, the “Godzilla Intercept Operation Awaji” theme park offers an unparalleled adventure for fans and thrill-seekers alike. Just an hour from Osaka, this unique attraction boasts the world’s largest life-sized Godzilla statue, stretching an impressive 120 meters in length. The adventure begins with an exclusive seven-minute short film by Toho Studios, setting the stage for the thrilling experiences ahead. One of the park’s highlights is the zipline attraction, where visitors can choose between the “Inner Body Observation Course” or the “Outer Body Observation Course,” both offering a heart-pounding descent into the massive creature’s mouth. I've never been, but I think I love Japan.

From the reddit:
edit: oh, also! You can't do Japan without doing Tokyo - in which case you should check out the giant Godzilla head in Shinjuku. It activates with theme music, roaring, and 'atomic breath' every hour between 12pm and 8pm. Recommend swinging by when it's dark so you can actually see the breath!
