How many of us still actively using SACD?

Quick update. I got the player this week. For $40 I am thrilled! I was initially having an issue with multi-channel SACD via DSD over HDMI. It kept cutting out and was unusable. 2-ch SACD was fine. I thought the player was a dud, but a firmware update fixed the issue!

SACD on this unit sounds great! I am also thrilled with the gracenote feature for CDs. It's my first device with Pandora, so I am having fun with that as well. This has exceeded my expectations and I am happy!

A $40 Bluray player......That's awesome! Funny how that same caliber of player was probably closer to $400 a few years ago.

That caliber of player (Internet streaming apps like Pandora, SACD over HDMI, etc.) didn't even exist a few years ago. THAT'S how far and how fast this stuff has come.

I still remember a bunch of people telling me BluRay will fail because the players are too expensive.

Here it comes...

I told you so.

I think people are showing a desire to move away from physical media, so they put this tech into BR players to get a few more good years out of the format. I imagine that we're not too far away from seeing only a few BR players on the market. I have no data or research to back this up, it's just my humble opinion.

BluRay disc sales are still growing:

http://www.twice.com/article/478896-BDA ... o_Come.php

"As for today’s software business, Blu-ray content sales grew 58 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2011, contributing to a cumulative 33.6 million unit U.S. household penetration, according to the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG).

Its latest industry report even showed significant growth in the rental of packaged media, despite the disappearance of numerous mom-and-pop stores."

I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to grow for a while longer, but I think they'll begin to decline before too long.

And while I don't believe the reported numbers are wrong, I would point out the source of report is from the "Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) U.S. promotions committee chairman and Pioneer Electronics communications and advanced product development senior VP."

Here is another article that suggests that DVD and BD (lumped together, I know this is not apples vs. apples) will begin to decline in 2012. Again, consider the source, "Dan Cryan, a senior principal analyst of broadband & digital media at IHS." I think each side is trying to argue that their method of delivery is the one consumers prefer.
