I'm making music, too.

Flint, I'll send the link of both songs to people I know and ask them for their input. None of them know you (and none are musicians... well couple are but I'll skip them) so their opinion would be free of any bias (I suppose). I'll report back in a few days.

I really like "I Won't Follow"... I played it for my friend Matt and asked if he recognized the band. He said it had a really familiar sound and guessed Weezer, and Green Day. I got a kick out of that because Green Day was exactly the first band that came to mind when I first heard it, at least vocally. My wife really enjoyed it too. "Hole in My Soul" doesn't appeal to me nearly as much because of the double vocals, it is a bit jarring to me when it occurs. Also it really doesn't remind me of anything else I'd listen to. And I definitely feel the "Ozzy" vibe from that track. All-in-all I'm blown away that I have the pleasure of knowing at least two people capable of producing music of CD producing quality. My hat is off to both you and Zing. Simply amazing :eusa-clap:

That's a pretty close result, so we may have to go for a side by side comparison. When I get home I hope to remaster the song with improved bass sound (it is muddy now), tightened up drums sound (secret of the studio - noise gates on close miked drums), and more ideal stereo imaging. I also plan on adding some percussion, but nothing extreme.

Well, 3 people replied and here are the quotes.

1. "I’m not really a fan of anything close to hard rock or even that many alternative songs, but I did enjoy that song I Won’t Follow. Hole in My Soul was a bit too hard for me, but I think that it was very well done – they both were well done."

2. "Pretty good music. Sounds like a cross between Green Day and the Refreshments."

3. "Don't care for either song. They sound very unpolished."

Pics? I thought I did comment, I just grabbed them out of my default photo folder. Did you take some of them? I will be taking that video down as soon and I finish mixing the final version.

Well... my return to making music now has me booked to play a show with my new band here in Austin. Based solely on the two unfinished demos I've posted here we somehow got the top billing for a Saturday night at a fairly popular club, the Lucky Lounge. I am pretty stoked, but to play the show I have to tear down my drum kit, transport it to downtown Austin, set it up, play, then tear it down quickly and get be back home to be setup again so I can practice and record. That work used to be easy for me back in the day, but I am dreading it now.

Also, I need cases. After buying a gorgeous natural finished set of drums because I love that look, I am now paranoid about damaging the beautiful finish. So, today I ordered some hard drum cases lined with fabric covered foam. I was going to buy the next to top of the line cases from Humes and Berg, but the top of the line "pro" series ultimately came out to be just over 10% more for the entire purchase:

Since I try to support local businesses whenever I can, I went back to Tommy's Drum Shop in Austin which is owned and run by Tommy and none of the profits leave Austin - the same place I purchased my drums 5 years ago. I am paying approximately $9% more than if I ordered them from the lowest price seller online, so it isn't a huge increase in cost to support my community and help keep a local drum store in business.

I am excited, and a little freaked out. This is a huge commitment for one show, so I am setting myself up for playing many more shows or else I have wasted my money on cases. I hope I am up for it. I have played to a crowd larger than can fit into my living room since 1995. That's a long time without playing live.

By the way, everyone is invited to come hear us on August 17th at the Lucky Lounge in Austin.

Boy, does that sound familiar! ;)

Still, the thrill of playing live itself never gets old. And to be headlining a show, in Austin, is fantastic, kudos! :eusa-clap: :handgestures-thumbup:

If I go, I'd wanna do it right. I'd want seats just in front of the sound man, backstage passes, photo ops, meet-and-greet, dinner with the band, autographed memorabilia and a certified letter stating we're all BFFs...you know, like what Pauly has with Joe.

You gotta be pretty damn special to get that sort of treatment!

Usually those packages cost upwards of $1,000 per person. So, if you can pay me $1,000 for you and $1,000 for the missus, I will arrange all of that for you. I will even help you book a room at the legendary five-star Four Seasons in Austin and book you into the top rated Lake Austin Spa and Resort for a day.

Make it a proper Austin experience!
