Legends of the Knight

Joanna and I attended the NYC screening last night. Pretty good turn out. We had a late dinner with filmmaker Brett Culp and his family last night before taking the 2.5hr drive home at 11:45. :scared-eek: The movie continues to receive praises by most everyone who sees it. I've heard very very few negative comments about it and those critiques weren't really about the content at all. But about things like running time and stuff like that. Two of the "heroes" in the film were in attendance. Jill who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at a very young age. Jill used to dream of acquiring super powers so she could overcome her disease, but when she got older and realized that wasn't going to happen, she latched onto Batman because of his humanity and lack of powers. She's an editor at the women's pop-culture site The Mary Sue.

The other "hero" was Rabbi Cary Friedman. His mother was a holocaust survivor. He used the Batman stories as a filter to process the horrific stories about the events of the holocaust and living through it told to him by his mother and other survivors. He is also the author of Wisdom From the Batcave.

I had my fingers crossed that I'd also get to meet NJ resident Michael Uslan. He co-owns the film rights to the Batman character and is the executive producer on pretty much every Batman movie or tv product including cartoons dating back to the 1989 Batman move with Michael Keaton. Unfortunately he's on the west coast right now. But he is a personal hero of mine and is featured in the film heavily.

Tonight Joanna, kids, and I are meeting Pauly and his fam for the Baltimore screening and a little food prior. Lenny Robinson will be present at this screening. He's yet another "hero" from the movie and is famous around the world for the viral police video of Lenny getting pulled over in Maryland in his black Lamborghini dressed as Batman. He is a millionaire who spends his time and money traveling across the country visiting children's hospitals. He was en route to a hospital when he was pulled over...

I want to encourage you all again to check the show times at wearebatman.com and see if there is a planned screening near you and maybe visit the online store. All net proceeds from all ticket and tie-in sales go to charity in some way whether local at a screening or more national through the site. I promise you won't be disappointed.

He will proudly (and solely) reside on my right-side subwoofer,
I'm sure you know already but I just wanted to :twocents-mytwocents: as I have broken my alarm clock on sub in the past (it bounced over the edgy during strong LFE moment and fell on the floor), this is a good option.
I have a ceramic Dasch, daxhou, er, wienerdog on my subwoofer. He is standing upright, wears a blue trenchcoat, open collar, and fedora, and plays a tenor saxophone. He's cool  He moves around on the top of my sub, but every time he approaches an edge he turns around and moves another direction (this happens over the course of weeks, or months). Once I can see his "travels" on the top from across the room, I know its time to dust.

I think you guys need to get yourselves more inert (or better braced) subwoofers. I've never had any item, on top of a sub (SVS or PSA), move even the slightest bit. And frankly, it wasn't from a lack of trying.

Bats, it's interesting that you posted in this thread today. Just this morning I preordered the Blu-ray. They immediately emailed me a link to download the movie but I think I'm going to wait for the BD before I watch it again.

Sweet! I would luv to meet this gentleman! What an awesome way to give back! :handgestures-thumbup: One of my favorite parts of 'Legends'!

Enjoy & take lots 'o pics!

Wow, what a great film! Had a great time seeing this - with Batman on many levels, including Lenny who was sitting just a few seats over from us, in full costume, during the show. His batmobile is pretty awesome too. (He didn't bring the Lambo.) And now we have a BD copy of the movie signed by him as well! Too cool.

It was also fun to meet Brett and hear some of this thoughts. This definitely has the potential to be an enduring part of the whole Batman mythos, showing a serious and inspirational side of the character, and of comic book stories/legends in general. Very thought provoking.

Some pics were taken, not by me - hopefully some of them will show up here later.

^ yeah Pauly I gotta get Joanna's pics off her phone and into my photobucket account and they'll be up real soon.

We had a fun night out with you, Eileen and the kids, that's always a pleasure!! It was cool to meet Lenny Robinson as well. What a complete and total class act, he took right to my son Daniel, and Daniel enjoyed that. It was both cool and funny seeing Lenny watch the film in full costume. I'd have loved to get a pic of the cowl against the light of the screen from a couple rows behind him.

I have a Delaware screening or two planned (dates TBA) in conjunction with Autism Delaware. Proceeds will go to them. I also sent a copy to the Secret Stash guys in hopes that they'll watch it and plug it on one or more of their several podcasts.

Did he wear that rubber cowl for the whole show?!

That thing must be crazy hot.

I've managed a meeting with a rep at Autism Delaware and in conjunction with them, have a tentative screening at Penn Cinema (the theater where we saw MoS last summer) on Thursday March 13. Some details have to be worked out and a threshold will have to be met but Autism Delaware has an incredibly strong marketing presence around here. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a successful event. Guess I'll get to witness firsthand, the strength or lack thereof of social networking and word-of-mouth.

Got word today that my Delaware screening has been approved by Penn Cinema!! Now I just got to promote the hell out of this thing. :text-link:

Nice. I'd love to make it... but school nights are kinda tricky. Hmm...

Yeah Paul, I understand if you guys can't. There was absolutely no chance at getting a Friday or Saturday at an actual movie theater....I knew that going in.

Just made these at zazzle.com had to throw something together tonight because I need these ASAP ...

Kudos to you Chris here's hoping the event is very successful.

I agree with Zing my SVS has a flimsy light weight portable phone on top and even after a bass heavy movie it hasn't moved at all.

Thanks Matt!

We have 20 days to sell 56 tickets. The threshold is 71 but we've sold 15 so far. Autism Delaware does a really good job of promoting their events so I think we'll meet the threshold fairly quickly. I had those postcards made primarily because my favorite comic book shop said they'll do whatever they can to help. But they're a 1/2 hr away from me so all I can really do is drop something like that off and hope they hand them out. I forwarded those pics to them to use on their FB page also. We just need the right families and couples to get on board then it'll get on a roll.

W O W! THE Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Clerks, Dogma, Comic Book Men, etc) interviewed Brett Culp on his "Fat Man on Batman" podcast and its pretty damn funny. If you didn't know, Kevin Smith is like the Howard Stern of the comic book world and he just puts it all out there and is very explicit. But having gotten to know Brett and his wife Tricia and how they wear their faith on their sleeve and listen to them interact with Smith is awesome. If you're so inclined, you can listen here :text-link: it's # 57 at the top of the page...please give the interview a few minutes of your time (I suggest skipping the first minute or so of Smith's vulgar intro, it's fairly annoying), Brett Culp simply exudes nothing but passion for this project and it's mission.

Legends Of The Knight gets Kevin Smiths full endorsement! "You will not see a more emotionally engaging Batman movie than 'Legends of the Knight' in your entire life!"

BTW, out of 71 tickets required to sell to guarantee the screening here in DE, we're currently at 63 seats sold with 8 days left to sell them. Once we hit that mark we'll have up until a few hours of the event to continue selling whatever remains beyond the 71 required. I have so many people saying they'll go that still have left to buy, that IF they all commit it could very easily sell out. As a contingency, me and a group of 3-4 people have agreed to purchase up the last tickets if necessary to give the other 63 people the opportunity to see it. I'm fairly confident that won't be necessary though. * fingers crossed. I'm also very nervous because I'm doing a brief intro before the movie and this will easily be the largest group I've ever publicly spoken in front of. :scared-eek:

Last night, Downtown Disney in Orlando sold out their screening to 130+ !!!
