I enjoyed this, but lots of plusses and minuses:
THE BAD: This is a Bluray, but the resolution was only about DVD quality. Focus was off a lot of the time, and there were a few video artifacts, noticable in waves in lakes, and pine needles blowing in the breeze. Right off the bat I noticed a sun reflection in a lens (don't know what these are called) which showed the lens only had a six-blade diaphram, pretty old equipment.
THE GOOD: DAYAM, what incredible scenery! What was cool was they filmed many familiar areas, but from completely different perspectives. When we hear "Yosemite" we think of that iconic photo with the two famous mountains side-by-side, but this video shows those two from different angles, AND the rest of the park; gorgeous! Showed a stunning castle in Tibet, but it wasn't the usual Dalai's pad. The shots of the Tetons had the recognizable Sawtooths, but from areas I'm not familiar with (and I spend a lot of time up there).
THE AUDIO: interesting; the new-age-style soundtrack was in the front four speakers (with an annoying mid-bass bump) and all the nature sound effects (birdsongs, wind, running water) were in the surrounds. The nature stuff wasn't entirely accurate; lots of birdsongs when the video was above the treeline in Patagonia, FAIL. The nature audio editing was also very rough.
I'd still highly recommend this one to anyone who loves the mountains, such great scenery of common and rare areas. :handgestures-thumbup:
