What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

For the record I have zero issue with strong lead female action characters in action movies in fact quite the opposite I can think of many awesome examples including Ripley from Aliens, Selene from Underworld, Trinity from The Matrix, (the original) La Femme Nikita and even less famous/less critically acclaimed examples like Olga Kurylenko in Centurion or Eva Green in the 300 sequel. I hope there are more and more moving forward. My criticism of Captain Marvel was purely cinematic in that IMO it felt a little forced like a coat tails movie taking advantage of all the buzz created by Wonder Woman. I would have said the same thing if it was a bandwagon movie about porcupines or egg salad. I just don't feel like it offered enough meaningful story telling importance or progression of the MCU to merit it's own movie (and my on demand rental fee). I think it's great that there are female leads in action and comic book movies and I support every bit of the empowering message it sends especially to young women viewers. I just thought this particular movie was a dud. And I agree with what Batman said. I have held off on seeing Endgame until seeing Captain Marvel. I try to see them in order so they all tie together as intended.

Watched 12 Strong with Chris Hemsworth last night. It was ok, but it did have some intense gun fights. I think Chris Hemsworth is perfect as Thor, but have yet to see him in a movie where I thought his acting was good.

Trying to watch Middle Men, and while I like the premise and acting, the technology details are completely wrong. I lived that era of the internet and what the movie shows isn't how it happened, at all.

Well, hell... .I liked the overall plot, but it was so horrible in terms of incongruities that I Was distracted more than I was engaged.

Why is there an 2010's era Cadillac SUV chasing the bad guy's limo supposedly in 1999?
How do online porn viewers get HD videos on their PC screens in 1999 when the fastest dial-up speeds are 56Kbps?
Why are there flat panel monitors and TVs in any of the scenes?
In fact, almost all of the high end cars they film scenes in are modern, yet the latest scenes are in 2004!
The "punch" lines are stupid - STUPID!!! "I like to hear my brain working... click, click, clickity, click"

Sorry, the whole damn thing just got worse and worse and worse - but the initial plot concept is a great idea which could have been a great movie. This is Hollywood at its worst.

Is anyone going to watch the theater re-release of Endgame...in the theater?

sure as shit the last time i watched a movie in the theater was captain america, winter soldier.

just a heads up, its coming out on blu-ray i believe *edit* is august 13. so that means in two weeks its on digital release.

of course, endgame is a pain in the ass to get via amazon thanks to their bickering against disney.

Watched this on a Netflix this morning. This movie was sooo much better than I expected. Hope they make additional movies for this series. Very fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

I bought it mainly for the grandson, as he kept talking about it, but I was surprised as well how much I liked this movie. I hope they do more as well.

My only complaint, and it's probably more of a personal issue, but some of the scenes with the very blurry background almost hurt my eyes.

i bought this on sale recently, and am excited to watch it.

should i watch this first or watch aquaman?

Two different movies, just depends on what you are in the mood for. Aquaman was the big blockbuster, Spiderverse is a very touching superhero movie. But, if I had to choose which one to watch again, Spiderverse would be the one I would watch.

I would have liked if they would have called Spiderham, Spiderpig instead, but since this was a Sony release, we get Spiderham. FYI, watch the movie before you watch the Spiderham short. Not that there is any spoilers in it, but you will understand it better.

Yikes, I’m gonna rain on everyone’s parade.....I thought Into The Spiderverse was pretty overhyped. I will say the production is about equal to the highest quality animated movies I’ve ever seen. And I still enjoyed it, but I’m not a fan of “multi-verses” within the DC or Marvel Comic continuities. Multi-verses as I understand them were originally gimmicks to retcon inconsistencies within Comic book canon. Ultimately these various universes, spun off several storylines for most characters within both DC & Marvel. I get why, but I still don’t care for them. Either way, I’m sure the success of Spiderverse will spawn sequels so maybe I’ll like the next one better.

Now, I’ll say that I went in to this movie with very low expectations. I had already made up my mind based on the previews that it was going to be terrible and people were making a big fuss over nothing. There was a moment near the beginning when the animation felt almost choppy that I almost called it quits, but I’m glad I kept going.

The multiverse is weird, but comical.

I'm like Lake and a few others, low expectations and pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. As far as the multiverse aspect goes, I liked parts of it and parts I didn't care for. And I'm no expert on multiverse's, but I believe that they would all be the exact same moment in time, not different years like SpiderNoirMan or whatever he was called, and the same thing goes for the anime spidergirl. Technology can be vastly different, so they could have still used them, but they should have kept them all in the same year.

That’s the thing about multiverses ... with infinite possibilities the rules for each university can be anything you want. So while the flow of time may be linear and constant across all, maybe something happened in Noir universe that set back human development by a few decades. Or maybe that universe is just getting to the idea that that aesthetic is cool.

personally, i dont care much for multiverses. when it all started in comic books, it was to an extent acceptable.

i can agree on time travel, like xmen and cable kinda stuff in the 90's, but other than that, it was too confusing for me.

That's why I said the technology could be vastly different, but it would still be the same year. In the movie, the say Noir man comes from 1932, and that anime girl comes from 3000 and something.
