There are ways to reduce that with EQ or how you aim the speaker, but that shouldn't be necessary.
Not to mention that anytime you apply EQ, phase changes are introduced which can screw up imaging among other things.

I believe it also reduced pops from Ps and Bs but, yeah, few people like saliva splatter on their $15,000 mics.I always thought that little 'pantyhose' thing they put in front of the mic was to reduce sibilance due to the closeness of the mic. Is it just a spit guard?
