New Receiver???

Well there you have it. Scratch Onkyo off your list. I haven't had one for a couple years so I really haven't stayed on top of it. For the record, I haven't had one problem with my Marantz models. Had a scare where my internet crashed in the middle of an update but was back up the next day DL completed and didn't skip a beat.

Thats what I thought also then I started searching around and many 885 owners reporting the HDMI problem and it seems to be traced to heat and chinese caps that didnt handle the heat well.

I've posted the DIY solution link to this problem at least 3 times in other threads. Replacing caps on the HDMI board with higher temp rated ones (for $20 or less) solves the problem. Decision time: spend $20 to fix the problem or $1000+ to buy a new receiver. And no, I'm not looking for attention - just trying to save you guys a few $.

Moral of the story: Upgraditis trumps budget issues almost every time.

Ok so I was looking at the Outlaw 975/ 7125 combo for $1398 and my curiosity is really peaked now.

HMMM?????

Thoughts????

Real world useability????

7125 states that it is made in America, so does anybody know who makes it? ATI, or another American OEM'er???

That's a great amp with years worth of great reviews - from both professional reviewers as well as end users. Even Soundhound had praise for that amp.

ATI makes all of Outlaw's amps except for their 200W monoblock.

Im thinking of trying this its worth a shot. But as many that have had success there are equal amount that haven't. Thing that is stopping me from cracking it open is my solder skills and the hope that Onkyo takes a big enough black eye they make it right.

Yes Lulimet got it right. Sorry guys, I thought I posted where I was getting it from.

There have been so many good experiences from accessories4less from the guys on here, I had no resrervations.

I am still really hot on the Outlaw idea. What a great plan, a $550 pre/pro and a good amp. That way in 5 years when that pre/ pro is oblsoete, you simply get rid of it, hook up the new one to the perfectly good amp you already have and in the words of the Spanish VOILA!!!

But I have had wonderful experiences with Marantz for years and I got the 7007 for almost 50% off. A few short years ago this was considered a reference/ flagship receiver so I didn't figure I could go wrong.

I've heard Heeman's Outlaw and it worked/sounded fantastic. When my Onkyo 885 was out of commission I considered getting one. The lack of a multi-band EQ was the only thing that gave me pause.

Well my new SR7007 should be in by Tuesday or Wednesday and then I can start the process of swapping out the old unit.

It's kind of a sad day as my old Marantz SR870 and DP870 processor have served me very well in my modest 5.1 system upstairs. I don't know what I am going to do with the old girls.

If anybody is interested in a 5.1 (only) capable Dolby Digital setup maybe for a second sytem. They can probably have them for the costs of shipping. BTW, this applies to AA forum members only.

That makes sense, its a refurb. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Seems like you can extend the W for about $50 to equal the 3 years on new.

UGH I'm startin to get antsy. This is one of the main reasons I like brick and mortar stores. When I take a notion I want something I go get it and don't have to wait. :angry-banghead:

Thats a Helluva good price and I ain't scared of no refurb. I cant wait for your thoughts and this very well may be my income tax refund splurge.

It's here. I should get it hooked up and running tomorrow.

Well if nothing else this thing is sexy as hell.
