Sorry for the terrible photo, but i also built two frames, wrapped them in speaker cloth, and inserted them in the recesses at the back of the room. They turned out quite nice.

Then we bought a picture frame and mounted speaker cloth inside of it to hide the Studio20 on the left side of the theater:

Then i brought the FiOS STB down from my son's room, and watch some football: Poor, poor, Jets fans.

So besides all that, i finished caulking all the door trim and baseboards everywhere except the craft room. Renate needs to re-organize that room so i can work in there to finish caulking. Then on to painting doors, and trim! After that it's door handles and then carpeting, and then we need to decide on what we'll use for the bar counter-top.

In case you're wondering, the trim and doors will all be standard white, except for on the theater front wall. There, we will paint the doors black, same as the wall. And the trim/baseboards there will be the dark gray that is on the side walls of the theater area.

Do the black bars on that wide screen disappear like they do in the pic?

I have a 16:9 screen and the grey bars when viewing wider aspect content drive me crazy. I've considered a wider aspect screen but the cost of a masking system for 16:9 use is prohibitive right now.

Haha, good timing on the pic, I guess. Zing, I had no idea you were a Jets fan. My condolences :D To be fair, i don't have overly high hopes for my Giants this year either.

Tom, the side bars are visible in normal viewing, but not terrible. Remember, this is just projected onto a primed white wall. From the front row, the texture from the wall is fairly obvious, so i'm guessing that i will see a large increase in image quality when i get a real screen.

Tom,
I wonder if your black level is suffering due to your white ceiling?

I have a dark brown ceiling and light tan carpet, and I can see a difference with the top and bottm bars on my screen (top is "blacker"). I'm thinking of cutting some cheap black carpet to lie in front of the screen during darker movies. Wife will then declare me officially fucked in the head, instead of semi-fucked.

It's definitely a factor. I get a very noticeable reflection on the ceiling above the screen. Ive considered upgrading to a Black Diamond screen but I think I'll try painting the ceiling flat black (with the Rosco paint Heeman and Cmonster used) first.

Geographically speaking, yeah, it would have to be your head, 'cause the government has dibs on your butt

Granite bar top is in.

Pictures aren't the greatest, as I evidently got significant reflection from the blue painters tape (we're about to paint trim).

Nice! But what I really want to see are pictures of the liquor cabinet to accompany that beautiful bar!

Oh, snap! :laughing-rolling: She'll never live that down.

Carpet! It's a dark gray, on the warm side, and matches the walls pretty darn well.

Let's see, what else. Trim and doors are all painted, but i do need to touch up a couple spots. Door handles are all installed. We have minor trim work left, and have to put on the HVAC grilles, but the main goal for the next two weeks will be organizing all our shit and clearing a lot of it out.

Oh, i should also mention i bought 2x Klipsch Sub12 subwoofers. I got a great deal, so they only cost me ~$260 for both of them. Not too bad for 2x 12" woofers and 600 watts RMS of combined power. I'll use these for awhile, and then look to upgrade when we have the funds. I figure i'll be able to resell them for what i bought them for pretty easily.

Cool! Looking forward to seeing this in person someday...

Awesome, getting closer and I bet you are lovin' the smell of that new carpet!!
