What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

on a scifi trip recently (i kinda noticed tom cruise likes doing sci fi flicks...)

The Machine (2013)

The_Machine_2013_BR.jpg

This ones currently on netflix streaming for those interested.

Short, but definitely timed and paced really well. some if not noticeable bad cgi, but all in all, a great movie. of course its got that universal soldier plot line, but its also got some great different angles in it.

worthy of a purchase? dont know yet, but i plan on watching it again.

and i thought there was some roboporn in it. :happy-smileygiantred:

(yes, there is none).

oh no, wait, teenage megan ninja turtles...

anyways,

got to see GOTG last sunday, i cant say ive cried so much in a movie, as much as i have here (second is captain america winter soldier)

in a nutshell, man, this was amazing. Everything i was hoping for.

the characters, the humor, the homage to comic afficionados, just a buncha easter eggs (and no im not referring to the one after the credits)...

such a great movie.

i will see this again. yes im willing to drop another cheapo 7 bucks for this flick.

heck i already bought the soundtrack, the stickers, the toys, and rocket racoon figure in september.

awesome.

like three syllable awesome.

because.
they.
can.

I fully agree here, this was IMO just as good as The Avengers. Just a great great movie.

Robocop (2014)

I'm surprised it didn't get higher rating on some of the major movie sites. Granted, it's a remake and inevitably it gets compared to the original. But as far as screen writing goes, it's better than the crap movies that are coming out these days. There are scenes that build up suspense well by its camera work, dialogue, sound effects and ...etc, the way it's all put together. I would say the director did a good job. Plus, the pace is pretty good (2 hrs long but felt like it was shorter).

In the scene where the doctor reveals how much of the machine replaced the main character's body, I felt sad for the guy. Not many movies touch my emotion. This movie also does a decent job on character building. It's got politics, family value, corporate greed and a compassionate doctor. That's a decent plot.

3.5 stars out of 5 from me. As for the visual effects and audio quality, I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. :handgestures-thumbupright:

If you like high-tech and shooting actions, it's a "buy".

I think that the biggest problem with this is that it lost it's "R" rating. Killed it for true Robocop fans because some of the thrill of the original is it's pure violent grit. I actually liked the remake, but I still thought it could have been so much better had it stuck true to the nature of the original.....of course then the Tweens wouldn't have driven ticket sales....

Just watched "November Man" with Pierce Brosnan. Do yourself a favor and skip it. Boring dull story I watched this for free and still feel I was cheated. Had high hopes for this as I like Pierce as Bond but this wasn't even worth a rental. Save your money and time.

Watched Transformers Age of Extinction yesterday. Rather mindless movie like the others but the audio was top notch. A lot and I mean a lot of deep bass scenes (like the pulse firing scene from the first one but a lot more). Movie was almost 3 hours and found they could've cut an hour out of the battle scenes and it would've been more tolerable. The fight scenes just dragged on a tad too long for my liking but otherwise a good Saturday afternoon leave your brain at the door kinda movie. Thought Michelle would like it more because of Mark Wahlburg whom she has a massive crush on but when it was over she said she liked the other ones more. Oh well movie only cost me 5.00 for the HDX "Bluray" version on Vudu so can't complain.

Today we are watching "Brick Mansions" with Paul Walker (one of his last movies).

watched transformers as well last night, made me realize how id have to be considerate of watching movies like this in the new place.

the movie as matt said, definitely surprised clocking in at 2:45, and if it wasnt so bad i wouldnt have noticed it. i did. its not TOO bad, but man the story was flat, definitely not cohesive and with so many components and characters, it was just a bit all over the place.

but man what a gorgeous movie this was. plus the audio was definitely amazing. there were key points that i KNEW i love my subwoofer. i can definitely see why they chose this movie to be used for the atmos effect. my height speakers were active a lot with the helicopters, the whirls and rain and everything active at so many times, it felt like my surrounds were, um, outdated? its definitely audio appealing.

A Walk among tombstones
- Liam Neeson, playing a similar role in this movie... ex-something who retired but forced out of retirement etc... good good plot, and reminiscent of Jack Reacher, but a bit grittier. great movie IMO.

Godzilla

Finally saw it. Disc came out last Wednesday. Not bad. I'm not a follower of Godzilla so I didn't know much about it at all. Good CGI and lots of LFE. Good for sub demo.

As for the actions, they are all in the dark of night and heavily edited so it's hard to follow. I'm curious how you all felt about it.

For me, it's a decent popcorn flick. 3 stars out of 5 from me. I can see the diehard fans loving it.

Just watched a very good movie from 2009 called "Moon" with Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey (well his voice at least). Very interesting movie about a lone man finishing up a three year mission on the moon with a helpful robot (Gerty voiced by Spacey). This movie I felt was much like Tom Cruises movie Oblivion but way better even though it moved at a slower pace. Sam Rockwell has to hold this entire movie by himself as he is the one and only lone character the entire movie and after an accident happens the entire movie takes a drastic turn. I've heard about this movie a few years back and actually recall picking it up at Blockbuster when it was still running but putting it back for another movie. Kinda wish I hadn't. My nephew then a few months back added it to our Vudu account and tonight I finally just decided to watch it and boy was I glad I did. I wouldn't call it a suspense or drama or comedy but it had slight features of all three and was just a good movie to watch.

Anyway with all the routine crap out in theaters this was a nice change of pace.

^ Yes, it's one of rare well made sci-fi movies. There were couple other characters like his supposed wife and daughter.

BTW, I didn't care for it but did you enjoy the moon shot in that moon movie? Or was that for the viewers of the opposite gender, kind of like the scene between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in Black Swan.

DIY yeah they had other characters but they were all recorded messages and so little of the movie played those recorded messages that I felt Sam Rockwell held this movie all on his own.

No I didn't like the moon shot perv.

I may have to watch this one again, but sober this time?????? :scared-eek:

Has anyone else here seen this one?
