What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

^--- nothing, dunno why the video has doubled that scene... in the actual movie they move on right after the song ends, so you're not missing anything muscially.

Pauly I never watched the movie and i feel I'm still not missing anything. :happy-smileygiantred:

Took the family to see Tomorrowland yesterday, which turned out to be a bigger adventure than first anticipated. I bought my suburban in 2004 brand new, and even though it still runs great, it's starting to show its age and decided to blow a break line just as we were getting off the highway. Fortunately I was going slow enough that I just tapped the guy in front of me, left a small scratch on his bumper, which he didn't seem to be too concerned about. Ended up parking the vehicle in a parking lot, and I'll have one of the guys from work pick it up with the roll back truck and get it to the shop to get it fixed.

The movie was ok, but wished they had gone into a little more detail about Tomorrowland. The movie was just over 2 hours, and another 20 minutes of details wouldn't have made the movie too long, and I think would have made for a more compelling movie.

Hugh Laurie plays the evil guy in the movie, and steals every scene that he is in. The movie seems to be aimed at a younger audience, so he really isn't that evil, and you almost kind of like him. I don't want to give away any plot details, but we enjoyed it, just wished it was a little more fleshed out in details.

I watched two movies today. The first was Pitch Perfect 2, which I loved. It was the rare sequel that was at least as good as the original. Hilarious and completely worth the trip to the theater with the family, we all spent a lot of time laughing.

The second was Birdman, which Rex Reed of The Observer called, "a miserable load of deranged, deluded crap masquerading as a black comedy..." I could not agree more.

Quickie Review
Kind of slow and tries really hard to be "arty". Other than getting to see ScarJo nekkid, I'm not sure I can recommend this one. Unless you're int the mood for something "arty"... or you want to see ScarJo nekkid.

Wife and I went and saw San Andreas yesterday. It was a pretty action packed movie, although there were a few times you needed to turn your brain off. Not sure I would buy it when it came out, but another rental for sure.

Minor spoiler alert below...

If the epicenter was San Francisco, why would a tsunami come back and crash into San Francisco? Wouldn't the water be pushed out to sea, not brought back in?

No at first the force would push the water outward but the force of the gap created and the water rushing back to fill that gap would be equal speed than the initial outward blast when the gap was created by the shifting plates. So all that water rushing back to fill that enormous gap would create a tsunami rushing back to the mainland.

Think of it this way. Take a large rock and just drop it in a body of water. The first effect you see is the outward ripple of the displaced water moving outward then a second later you would see the incoming water filling in the "hole" that was created by the stone which initially displaced the water. Now imagine that hole miles long and very deep. The rushing water coming back to fill that massive hole caused by the shifting plates and the giant hole created would be more than enough to cause a huge wave of force coming back in.

Simple physics. For every action there is a equal and opposite reaction.

I could be wrong Matt, but that's not my understanding of the way tsunami's work. When an earthquake happens, it sends a shockwave at the bottom of the ocean, meaning that there is a wall of water at the bottom moving with incredible force. It doesn't form a wave until it reaches shallow water, which would then cause the water to recede from land. They mentioned a big earthquake in Chile, that caused a massive Tsunami in Hilo, HI in the 40's I believe, and they are 8000 miles apart. The tsunami didn't come back onto Chile.

:text-link: Article on the faults, pun intended, of the science of the movie San Andreas. For the most part they get it right in the movie, just a few exaggerations, the tsunami being one of them.

Well it finally happened my SVS finally bottomed out. Was watching "Jupiter Ascending" bizarre movie I mean real bizarre and towards the beginning of the movie I heard this very loud quick thump and my GF who was laying on the couch with her head on a pillow against the sub went, "Ow" then the sub didn't work. So I shut off the sub. Removed the fuse and it looked okay so I put it back in and turned on the sub and it worked fine again. I don't know why the sub bottomed out I mean I play my subs loud but the preamp sub level is at its lowest level (-12) and my gain on the sub was only at 4 (out of 10). I mean I've heard deeper bass like the beginning of Live, Die, Repeat Edge of Tomorrow with that long deep note ten seconds into the movie or during Transformers when Bumblebee does the pulse rifle jump over the screaming girl. But this movie Jupiter has some very very deep bass notes I just didn't think it would be enough to bottom out my sub. Hope I didn't do any permanent damage.

I put on a track as soon as I turned the sub back on that Jeff turned me on to with some serious deep bass sk8r Boi by Avril Lavigne and my bass was back and continued watching the movie (at a slightly lesser volume level). Anyway if you guys want to test your bass level I guess this movie is the new one to beat (can't say much for the movie itself as I'm only halfway thru it and it is very strange and hard to follow.

Btw while behind the sub I found a few switches had been flipped (dang GF told her not to dust around my gear). So my subsonic filter was set to disabled and not the 20Hz setting the sub is tuned to and the switch for crossover was enabled and not disabled as my reciever is handling the bass crossovers.

So how did the movie turn out? The premise sounded good with it, but it hasn't gotten good reviews.

Only watched half and gotta tell you in no rush to see the last half. It's a lot like Pitch Black 2 strange worlds confusing characters, a few shoot em up with lasers while Channing Tatum is shirtless the entire time (it's a heavy SciFi movie how they ever thought just showing CT half naked would draw a female audience in this bizarre movie I'll never kno). This is done by one of the Wakowski brothers (not the cross dressing one) of Matrix fame. Movie so far is just a confusing hodge podge of quickly put together scenes. I'm hoping the second half ties this together but so far me and Michelle are not too impressed.

Sean Bean is in it so well you just know he's gonna have to die at some point in this movie.

The trailers we saw showed promise, but not enough to draw us back to see it. I'll probably watch it someday on one of those free hbo or showtime weekends.

I still have no interest in completing it. So watched "Chaos" instead with Jason Statham and Wesley Snipes. Forgot how good that movie was.

Just watched "Black Sea" with Jude Law having not heard a thing about this movie I was really surprised at how good this movie is. Story is about a rag tag group of older ex submarine shipmates who having been fired over the years hear of an sunken Nazi submarine filled with gold and they decide to steal it from the company that had fired these guys over the years. They need help from some Russian submarine shipmates as the sunken sub is in Russian waters. So they get ahold of a sub as old as WW II to try and find the Nazi sub. Awesome movie if you get the chance to watch it.

Movie got a 82% at Rotten Tomatoes

Wife and I saw Jurassic World yesterday. On it's own, it was an entertaining movie. As a reboot, maybe a little disappointing. It might have been the theater we were in, which is a very updated with reclining seats and usually very good sound, but the soundtrack seemed off. John Williams theme played throughout the movie seemed very soft and reserved. Overall we liked it though.

I'd like to get the opportunity to take the kids before my GTG....they'll be with my parents the week of the GTG so I gotta make it happen soon.

So far this weekend:

Kingsman: The Secret Service - This movie was a lot of fun. The entire family loved it.

Jupiter Ascending - Lots of eye candy. Byzantine plot. Had all the right ingredients, but just never quite clicked. Worth a rental.

The Duff - Yet another teen coming of age comedy, but probably better than average for the genre.

Seventh Son - You will have the distinct feeling that you have seen this movie before. Worth a rental if you like Van Helsing or Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Agree Haywood wound up buying Kingsman for 5.00 for Vudu. GF thought it was campy but I thought it was a lot of fun for a leave your brain at the door kinda movie. Loved the chick with no legs.

Saw this movie recommended somewhere yesterday as one of a list of movies that you should watch on Netflix. I didn't finish it because it was getting late, but if you like documentaries about behind the scenes stuff in show business, this is a worthy watch. I had never heard of the guy, but it sounds like he's lived a storied life. He's no angel, but he has done some good with his fame and money.
