What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

Very well done and hard to watch.
Mild spoiler warning (it's a documentary not sure if spoilers are really warranted but just in case)...

I wonder if his brother had not died young how many major memorable movies they might have made together? Imagine that crazy creative tandem making real movies together? We might all be talking about his brother as an all time great director.

Finally watched that Val Kilmer documentary "Val" on Amazon. I thought it was very well done it's amazing just how much raw footage he recorded over his entire life and career. Kind of heartbreaking to watch his decline and (IMO) partial insanity... it's like he can't switch off his need to perform... recording every moment. It felt like he was reading lines even in the course of his normal life. (Mild spoiler) There was that defining moment early in the film when he discovered his love for acting when he was on stage in that high school play and fed off the laughing crowd reaction... it was like he became addicted to that feeling and never stopped performing. I love many of his movies and performances and it was really cool to see so much behind the scenes footage from so many of them.
I was also astounded at the amount of footage!! I feel like there was an opportunity somewhere to say "Hey kids, if you are thinking of smoking....don't!! Sort of like Yul Brenner only it's not post mortem.

First time Watching the movie?
yup. never seen it. i thought it was a bit over the top. and yup, i got that from the first few minutes. but it was meant to be an over the top movie. just trying to finish it. its not deplorable or anything, just different. kinda like how er... that mark wahlberg porn movie. it is what it is.

monkey,

im super curious now about this since its available for rental. did you see it yet?
Not sure if it's out yet checking release date... just looked it's in theaters now not streaming yet. Still gun shy on theaters with COVID stuff but hopefully will get back there some day. For now will have to wait for streaming.

Another old movie that I saw for the first time...

I did not enjoy this. I like Steven Spielberg and all but not this.

Rob Zombies Halloween hit Netflix, watched it early this morning while drinking my coffee. It’s a better film then I remembered but I still also remember what a disaster his part 2 was.

Also I seriously wish he would stop putting his wife in every damn movie, she is just dreadful.

New Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix. I liked it a lot, payed just enough homage to the original (which has aged horribly and imo is almost unwatchable) while giving just enough to keep it going.
Tons of violence and gore, and just a fun horror flick.
Not as good or as polished as the 2003 remake but still a great addition to the franchise.

We watched Dune last night. I really didn't have much interest in it but Angela had mentioned it several times. It was on sale in iTunes for $10 so I went ahead and grabbed it in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Wow! Much better than I was expecting and it looked and sounded fantastic. The soundtrack, in particular, was a standout and had me totally engrossed in the film. Overall, it looked great except for a couple of minor motion artifacts (I suspect Angela didn't notice).

Anyway, I was looking back through this thread to see what others said about the movie and came across this:

Semi related rant...

I have recently decided that streaming quality is just not good enough for me yet for major visual big screen movies (Dune, Bond, etc).
I am with you on this, all the way..................

I disagree. Three recent movies, Dune, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Free Guy, have me thinking there's no need to buy physical discs again.

IDK I still have a attachment to physical media.

Just something about it.
