Joe Bonamassa

Ok I'm pretty sure I like Afterglow more than the other Black Country Communion albums. It doesn't go so far out if its way to sound like 70's classic hard rock; it still has some of that sound, sure, but really has its own style that's kind of a blend of classic rock, rock ballad (the "Afterglow" track actually has orchestration), even a little funk (e.g. "Common Man"). There are some songs on here I don't much care for, but the center of the album - Afterglow, Dandelion, The Circle, and Common Man - are fabulous songs.

And yeah Joe has some great solos in here - his funky modern sometimes almost atonal solo at the end of Common Man is KICK ASS playing and really interesting, musically - this album is not so much a bunch of soloists coming together, but more of a united, coherent group sound compared to their earlier albums, I think. Each of the parts has its moment, but it's not so much a showcase for solos.

For Zing, and all you other Joe haters (or at least mis-spellers):

So I watch Joe at the Royal Albert Hall on PBS last night, or at least what recorded due to weather, and he is an awesome guitar player. As good as I have ever seen! I will probably pick up a couple of his cd's based on this viewing alone. ....But, he has to be the uncoolest Rock Star that I have ever seen. He seems to try really hard on stage, but it comes off kind cheesy. It was cool to see him play with Clapton though.

BTW, I think I saw Pauly in the crowd there, just couldn't tell if he was the one with the pink or the yellow inflatable guitar. :happy-smileygiantred:

 Yeah Joe looks kinda goofy sometimes. He's changed his "image" a bit since the RAH concert...

If you like that style, there is a CD of the RAH concert available. And I would also recommend "Live from Nowhere in Particular" which was recorded around the same time.

Thanks for the tips Pauly, I'll check them out!

Live from Royal Albert Hall is definitely my favorite cd of his.
After that necessity (lol) I would suggest trying one of his studio cd's.
or if you don't already have it, get the Beth Hart/Bonamassa cd. It's freaking incredible!

Had to run out and pick this one up today, after Pauly has coerced, I mean suggested some cd's by him. I can see adding more in the very near future.

Excellent! I missed him in DC last month, but he'll be here in Baltimore in May, I definitely plan to go.

In case anyone's been thinking of trying some JB music, all his albums are $5 to download for the next few days...

:text-link:

Huh, there's one on there I don't have - the Shepherds Bush live album, that's apparently only available in download form. Never knew about that one, gotta get it! :music-listening:

FYI, Joe and Beth Hart just finished recording another duo album, looking forward to it! No idea what this new one's called yet... Don't Explain is still way up there on my favorite albums list.

Also, I'll be going to Joe's show (and a meet&greet beforehand) here in Baltimore on 5/14, anyone wanna join me? :music-rockout:

I also just heard that Joe and Beth will be making a video concert this summer as well.
