What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

image.jpeg image.jpeg

Probably the greatest action movie of all time "The Raid" and "The Raid 2". If you like action movies, gruesome violence and awesome martial arts then this movie is a must see. The Raid was so good that Hollywood stole it and dumbed it down for the plot to the last Judge Dredd movie. Lone cop in a 30 story slum controlled by a mob boss who gets all its criminal tenants to basically stalk and try to kill this cop. Th Raid was way way better than hollywoods version. Just when you think the movie could never be outdone the sequel comes out and not only matches the original but makes it even more violent with even better villians. A must see.

Wow, I didn't realize just how good this movie is:

Watched this with the kids 'cause they were bugging me for something to do (summer "I'm bored" syndrome). I'd seen it before and at the time, wasn't all that impressed. Dunno what changed exactly, maybe my expectations, but I REALLY enjoyed it this time. Good music, good story, actually kinda refreshing to watch a non-computer-3d movie - one of Disney's last? It was really fun.

Watched Batman versus Superman the extended version. Wasn't what I was expecting but still enjoyed the movie especially all the Easter Eggs. I had to google who Joe Mortons superhero character will be as I didn't get his reference but nice to see the Aquaman and two Flash scenes.

How come no one streams this, Netflix will rent the disc and Amazon will rent or you can buy these movies.

(sorry couldn't find a better pic)

Fundamentals of Caring - a netflix original movie. Quite good actually, enjoyed it a lot. Some language, so not necessarily family-friendly, but I watched it with my older daughter - who recognized Selena Gomez long before I ever would have. Anyway, good story, good acting I thought, nice break from the usual big budget hollywood fluff.

I have attempted to view this movie twice and fell asleep both times, from either being too tired or a bit too much vino. Great Saturday for us, an early dinner, then, a movie.

Zing had seen it once before, but was excited to view it again. Yes! I really, really enjoyed it!! Great flix!

as others know, i love Collateral, probably one of Cruises better performances as an actor. The other would be this one.

on a sidenote, there will be another jack reacher installment soon. thus me asking about the books.

Little Prince - Netflix original movie. Loved it! Very good family movie, well done animation, interesting take on the original story (which I read in French when I was young but don't remember much of). Highly recommended.

Finally got around to watching Deadpool - on an afternoon with the rest of the family out of the house. Great movie!

Finally got around to watching Lone Survivor, which made me wonder all over again why the hell our country is even over there.

Being a comic fan It took me far too long to see Deadpool. Despite the hype I went in with low expectations however I thought it was great.

This is the third in a series of documentaries by Mark Neale on MotoGP racing (the first two are called Faster and Fastest). It covers the 2011-2014 racing seasons. Narrated by Brad Pitt (I preferred Ewan McGregor on the first two) and is excellent; highly recommended if you're into motorcycle racing at all. There were some warnings on Amazon that this Bluray was only European-coded; I took a chance and it played just fine on my Oppo (which has played everything I've thrown at it) and the disk/package I received doesn't give a Zone anywhere. The chapters are marked with non-descript scenes from that section, and totally useless. They showed the crash that killed Simoncelli, all music and narration went silent, kinda poignant; Marc Mrquez' crash at 209 mph was recorded nicely with the small cameras on the riders/bikes these days. Jorge Lorenzo broke his collarbone completely in two during practice (got to see the xray), was screwed back together with an 8" plate (got to see the xray), he raced, and crashed again two days later, and bent that plate at a 45-degree angle (yeah, you get to see that xray too). Nuckin' Futz!!
Fun to see the advancement of both tech, and riding techniques, over these docs/years; in the beginning it was cool to see the racers "drag a knee" and nowadays their elbows and even their helmets are touching down in the turns.
A constant in all three docs is the great Valentino Rossi, Italian kid, 6'2" tall, who has won more MotoGP championships (9) than anyone, and is still competitive at 36. Here, he finally won the race at the Dutch TT, after not winning 1st the last 46 races, (he last took 1st in Malaysia, his 46th run on the Yamaha bike), his career points after winning in Holland were 4,646, and his number is, of course, 46! He took second overall in 2014. Great interview with the two vicars in his home village; with that win they turned on the church bells (real bells, electrically played) and hit the bar to celebrate (forgot about turning the bells off ). Great fun!

Just saw "The Jungle Book" and was surprised how good the special effect were. The voice casting was also perfect. Bill Murry as Baloo the Bear, Christopher Walken as King Louie the giant ape and Scarlett Johansen as the hypnotic snake Kaa. Might be a tad violent for young kids but figure kids over 10 will enjoy it. Was very good movie.

You know it has to be pretty good when even Honest Trailers can't find much to make fun of.

My kids went rock climbing at an indoor climbing facility on the weekend, hence the movie choice. I am afraid of heights so I guess it is a vicarious thrill to watch these men and women!! I always thought Royal Robbins was just a line of clothing at my local outdoor store!!! The last guy, Alex Honnold was on 60 minutes awhile back. Why someone would CHOOSE to climb a 3000 ft vertical face WITHOUT ropes is beyond my comprehension. The guy in the middle of the photo used to occasionally drop acid before climbing!!! WTF!!
Scenery is stunning!! The transformation of Yosemite National Park to the tourist mecca it now is was also interesting and sort of sad to see.
I enjoyed it!!
Mike

^^^ Thanks Mike; like you I'm afraid of heights, but those kinds of videos/movies give me a thrill where I can look away when I need to. Adding to the cart!
