What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

Great family movie, I thought it was really well done for a non-mainstream animated movie.

No where near as good as the book. Lots of creative license but still not a bad way to waste a couple of hours. I must say that next to my fear of height is a fear of drowning. To think that Bernie Webber and his crew would actually head out into what were described as 40 to 60 foot seas to save someone else boggles my mind!!

great movie. not the best, but can definitely show the wider spectrum Chris pike can do.

Funniest movie I've ever seen has to be "Sausage Party" it was so politically incorrect I actually felt dirty for laughing so hard at some of the things I was watching. This is an animated movie but by God don't show it to any kids. It is a very dirty adult movie. Racist, sexist, elitist most non PC movie since Blazing Saddles. But damn it was hold your sides spit out the soda laugh out loud hilarious.

Just watched Suicide Squad. Wasn't too impressed but did love the soundtrack. I felt the movie could've been so much better and they made Batman look like a pussy in the film. It just seemed like everyone was just a characature of themselves and not in a good way. I felt dead shot should've been portrayed more like Deadshot in the TV series "Arrow" where's he's all serious and not cracking wise like Will Smith always does. I also felt Harley Quinn had a few good lines but Margot Robbie just didn't pull off just how violent and crazy she is in the comics and was more a half crazed Barbie doll having a mid life crisis. The ending felt totally like Ghostbusters to me in fact I kept thinking the witch was gonna say "I am Zuul. It was just okay for me in fact I preferred the episode of Arrow when they had one full episode dedicated to a Suicide Squad mission. That was better then this big budget movie. Also Jared Leto as the Joker was a huge disappointment.

^^ Soundtrack in Suicide Squad was a highlight for sure. Suicide Squad fell victim to the studio after BvS failed to meet box office expectations. After feedback and generally poor reviews for BvS, WB meddled during production (like they always do) and actually hired the company that cut some of the later trailers to cut an entire edit of the movie to compete with the directors cut in test screenings!! Guess which cut won out. As a result a lot of the Joker was cut from the film along with a lot of scenes showing the abusive nature of The Joker/Harley relationship. While I actually disagree with your thoughts on most of the cast and the character portrayals, with the exception of the Enchantress (she was horrible). I agree that the movie wasn't good. . The story was simply too weak to carry such a huge ensemble.

Wife and I went to see Office Christmas Party yesterday. I had heard mixed reviews about it, but we both found it very funny. Not sure it will become a Christmas classic, but we will at least rent it again when it comes out. Side note, I think Olivia Mun is a very pretty lady, but her acting leaves something to be desired.

A friend of mine saw it recently and told me it was hilarious. I'm not sure I'll bother with seeing it at the theater but will definitely rent it one it's available.

Watched Arrival (in the theater...is this supposed to be a viewed at home thread?).
I thought it was really really great. A very simple and basic fact of life exemplified by a movie.
Simple and extremely powerful. Loved it.

The Ipcress File (1965) - with Michael Caine.

Followed that one up with the second in the trilogy, Funeral in Berlin (1966). It's a better movie IMO, with a more elaborate plot and better characters. Much of it is set in Berlin and it was neat to recognize some specific places (like the Hilton Berlin) from the two weeks I spent there in 2008.

Jomari I just watched John Wick and I loved this movie. Loved the action and storyline and what happens when you push a man to his limits and awakens a sleeping giant (or trained killer). As someone who trained in karate for 27 years I thought the martial arts were first rate and not too over the top. Yeah some of the kill scenes were comic bookish but still very entertaining. Loved the acting by everyone involved and the bond and "rules" that serial killers had to abide by or face the consequences. Loved the "cleaner" who got paid in gold coins and by making "dinner reservations" yes table for 12 please. Awesome movie.
Finally got around to seeing this yesterday, bought it on a black Friday last year or the year before, and really enjoyed it. The only problem I had was if he was such a bad ass, and even though it was a surprise attack, I would have thought he would have put up more of a fight when the three guys broke into his house.

I was also impressed with the dolby atmos, even though I don't have an atmos receiver. Some of the rain scenes sounded like there was a wall of rain right in front of you, and they made good use of the surrounds, but not in a gimmicky sort of way.

awesome, glad to see im not the only one who liked it.

in a way the scene where it was a surprise attack, you have to remember, he was grieving, and well, was in a new 'life' so to speak, in remission to a life he left a year plus change ago.

The karate scenes were good in my opinion, tastefully done, despite some millisecond pauses, it was very well crafted.

i especially love the car scene at the airport tho.

i have this, equalizer, jack reacher, hitman 47 all on my tablet, phone and streaming devices.

There was something about the way Keanu shot his gun though. Overall, I liked it very much, and look forward to seeing the new one when it comes out.

Watched a couple of movies yesterday. Was reading the other day about where the cast of Love Actually is up to, and didn't realize Liam Neeson was in the movie. I had heard of the movie, but hadn't seen it, so when I saw it on Netflix, had to watch. Really enjoyed it, great ensamble cast, and Bill Nighy is great as as always. I don't have a lot of hate or love for Hugh Grant, but he played his part perfectly. Worthy of a watch with your significant other.

Next I watched the latest James Bond movie, Spectre. Overall, I enjoyed it, but the pacing seemed to be a bit slow. Christopher Waltz didn't get nearly enough screen time, but I did think it was a cool way to introduce the origin story of Blofeld, and that he and James Bond grew up together. The way the movie ended though, I call bullshit on Craig saying he wasn't doing another Bond movie as nothing more than theatrics.

^ I don't call BS. It's not the first time an actor was adamant about walking from the role. Apparently MGM is very rigid about the rules the actors follow. I know that Pierce Brosnan had to have approval from the studio to wear a tuxedo in films outside if the Bond franchise. The only film it was allowed was The Thomas Crown Affair remake....because it was an MGM film. Could it have been nothing more than a money play? Sure, but it's not unthinkable that he wanted to walk.

Even moreso, the studio can control much more than just what they wear. They don't want other studios cashing in on the star power for competing movies after taking an actor and essentially making that person the definition of a character worth billions of dollars. The same happens with TV, like Doctor Who. Those actors have a limited list of roles they can play after defining one of the most popular characters on television for three to six seasons.

^^
There's that and some actors aren't into recurring roles unless the franchise advances. Maybe Craig felt that the it was getting stale.

Just got back from seeing Fences. Acting amazing, no breath taking. A scene where Rose (Viola) finds something out, no spoiler here had me gasping for breath. I would like to think many awards coming. It is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play and Tony winner. Please see it.

Watched Suicide Squad at home last night and I thought it was decent. I thought the cast did an ok job but as noted above the story was a bit thin and I didn't care for the whole "Enchantress" thing, she was horrible, and the ending as Matt stated was a bit Ghost Buster.

Today we went and saw Passengers and it was way better than I expected it to be. When the girl I'm dating said she had gotten tickets and told me what she picked I was less than thrilled. However, it was good. Chris Pratt was good in it and very believable. Jennifer Lawrence was outstanding. Laurence Fishburne was rock solid as always. And, the dude that played the android bartender was really really good. I thought this was a pretty damn good movie.

My point in calling BS was because of the way the movie ended, with Bond quitting MI6. It would be one thing if Craig said he wasn't doing it anymore, but with Bond quitting as well, I think it's all marketing. For sure the movie, I guess we will know soon enough about Craig. I do hope Waltz continues on playing Blofeld.
