What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

watched a few movies this weekend:

A nice assasination love story with a strong co-star performance by HP's Rupert Grint - available via NF streaming - good quality

Two parter from NF streaming. I love historical period pieces and this is a decent one. Set in the numerous 16th century kingdoms comprising present day Thailand and Burma it has some beautiful recreations of that era. Is subtitled and gets a bit hard to follow at times due to all the conspiracies and kingdoms involved. I have not watched Part 2 yet. If you like films like Red Cliff I'd give this a try.

This was pretty funny and worth a rental.

I was not impressed by this film. Not a Bradly Cooper fan #1 and in the end it is about a greedy guy whose greed ends up getting rewarded big time. Might have been better had it not sent the message that "greed is rewarded" and "you don't have to work for what you get". In the end it praises much of what I see wrong with this country today.

Picked up the movie "Paul" at a RedBox this morning on Blu-Ray. I had wanted to watch it last week on Vudu, but just couldn't justify paying $5.00 for a 720p stream knowing it was just a few days away from being at RedBox. Now had I looked for this movie a month earlier, then maybe I would have rented it from Vudu.

Prepping to watch this now, if only the wife would get her ass down here...I've been intrigued by this one for a while since I didn't get the chance to see it while in theaters. I'll report back after watching...

^ Not bad, very much like The Bourne Identity... If you like that series, you may like Hanna.

did i already comment on Hanna?

if i did then ignore. if not well, heres my 2 cents.

i liked it, enough to not forget it in the next coming years, but not as strong as it could have been like Taken was. better yet the professional.

Assassins come and go, and this one seems to be the youngest if im not mistaken. the only problem i had was the euro soundtrack with some of the scenes.

Kinda like that bump-tsk-bump-tsk-bump kinda thing...

Watched this last night and was very entertaining. Some real good sound, especially for the sub.

And picked this up when I dropped off Hanna at the rental place

Didn't catch it at the theater but am looking forward to watching tonight.

may i put a request if 'yall dont mind? id love to see the titles. i cant see most of the pictures when im at work. sadly, its the only time im on board too...

anyways, im still planning to get The Town. I already saw it on dvd, but im not sure if its worth a purchase. I recently just bought Deadwood, and well, its kickin my funding budget.

Anyways, i loved The town, but not enough to garnish a purchase. heck i just recently bought Gone baby gone last two weeks ago.

Thor was okay. Could be better, but could also be worse. im glad tho that Asgaard was in it. considering his roots (he is norse by nature), its a compliment.

Dont forget to wait till the end parts boys.

Sorry - I watched "Hanna" last night and have "X-men First Class" for tonight.

Watched Edward Scissorhands last night (first time I've seen it). Not bad... but not great, I guess. Interesting story. Depp was ok, but didn't really seem to do a lot of acting other than standing around with a faintly stunned look on his face. Sort of like with Pirates, he acts a lot with just his eyes, one of his talents. And Ryder is hot in this one, IMHO. ;)

No need to apologize, im the asking the favor.its just that i love movies and this topic, so each time i learn a new posting is on, i like to hear peoples reactions or observations about them.

anyways, Pauly. I DID love scissorhands, and considering how it was one of burtons first movies, i thought it was clever, different, yet kept an essence of a story within.

The fact that Burton and Depp worked pretty well in this movie, and bloomed into a longer lasting working relationship, shows how some people can create some awesome artwork.

You got me on the eyes part - i know how dynamic an actor Depp can be, but never observed his eyes as the core of it. great posting T.

Really enjoyed this!! To reiterate my comments in the other thread, I liked it more than any other film in the series so far. Good solid effort by the studio, if you're a fan of the genre you won't want to miss it. Couple things you may or may not have known...Matthew Vaughn directed this who also directed KICK-ASS, and Bryan Singer who directed the first and second X-MEN movies, received a story credit and also was a producer...

This (X-Men First Class) is the best movie I have watched in a while!! Looked and sounded fantastic on my system.

This BD is going to be a new reference disc for both picture and sound. And the story was great.

I agree with Bats this is the best film in the series by far. I watched a rental but have already ordered a copy for my library,

There are a couple points I'd like to discuss but don't want to spoil for those that have not seen it yet.

Last night I watched the blu-ray of "Your Highness" starring Danny McBride and James Franco. I laughed my ass off. The humor was lewd, yes, and not at all suited for children; but I can't understand how this movie still got such a low rating over at Rotten Tomatoes (and even at Redbox user reviews). This movie was way better than "Paul", which was merely OK. At least the Yahoo users gave "Your Highness" a B-. Should've been an A+, though.

(EDIT: I should add that I watched the "unrated" version of the film.)

Bought both "X Men First Class" and "Rango" yesterday, so will watch X-Men tonight, havent seen it yet, but am looking forward to it. Was glad to hear it works out the sub though. Also just got through watching "9/11" something i do every year to remember the brave who fell on that horrible day. Every year I still get misty eyed when they show all the firefighters who died while playing "Danny Boy" It always brings back to me how immense and tragic this event was. It has only been shown two times on Network TV but to me is still the most powerful "insider" view of what went on as two brothers follow along with a Firehouse and when they were the first to respond to Tower 1.

Very thought provoking film.

Concerns the trial of Mary Surratt as a conspirator in the Lincoln assassination but I saw it as an allegory of serious questions being asked today about our justice system.

how was it? aside from thought provoking.... hehehe. i plan to dive in here, but without knowing much about the conspiracy to assasinate lincoln, im going to go on a limb and might not enjoy it as much as id like to.

Yeah j that's it -sorry I keep forgetting about your "blindness". though it does touch on the assassination it is more about the trial of Mary Surratt who owned the boarding house where several conspirators stayed and where they planned it with Booth.

Whether she was truly guilty of conspiracy or just bad judgement may never be really known as her trial before a military tribunal, rather than in a civilian court, was a real travesty of justice - she in essence was assumed guilty before the trial.

And it is not streaming - I rented it.

interesting... so she was already guilty even before it started. like a witchhunt eh?

i want to see it because the same kid who did x-men first class, was a very good actor. i wonder how he portrayed his character in this one.

nonetheless, interesting movie. will put it on my queue.

thank you mzpro!

for what its worth, i bought a costco dvd er... the compilation of all the military branches and their respective history. opened it, watched the marines, but on a switch went to the 'marches' section. saw the band, the drum and horns, etc. amazing stuff!
