What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

We are a diverse group with different tastes.

I put this movie as possible one of the worse this year. Totally boring. It is true the train wreck was a bit cool but that is what this movie was - a train wreck. (just my opinion)
It's no Spielberg (J.J. Abrams' idol) caliber but a lot better than Transformers 3.

Edit:

I went in knowing nothing about the movie, no plot line, no trailer (except super 8 camera being in it), no nothing and felt that it has a good suspense and interesting story line. Granted, the object being dealt with is not very realistic but so are some of Spielberg's movies and he pulled it off well. As for acting, the fat kid's acting was inconsistent from time to time but the rest were better than some of adult actors / actress around these days.

mz, just wondering, what didn't you like about this movie and what do you think could have been done differently that would have made it better?

SPOILER. SPOILER. SPOILER

I think one of the main things is I had seen a number of ads saying how it was the "movie of the year" so my expectations were pretty high. Also I knew that it had something to do with ET's so the suspense was not there for me.

If I had gone into it cold I probably would have liked it better.

And the train wreck was neat.

thanks to towen for such an amazing gift, i was able to watch it last night.

the amazing thing about movies is how somewhat its a great reflection of what we dream of, and what we fear the most in our lives.

this is a perfect example.it always has been since its inception in the 70's, and how well, it shows our imagination working on the concept of evolution, and a great twist into the darkest part of it.

what would happen if we find ourselves not on top of the mountain, but second place? and to whom? our predecessor, the ape.

there have been some great eye candy movies recently this year, including xmen, thor, green lantern etc... but rare can you find some movies with excellent stories to back them up. give me some beef, some umph to accompany it. if the movie doesnt have it, i might as well watch the chipmunks or smurfs for chrissakes.

i have to admit, im biased, but i also had to reflect on this. the first movie that struck a high note on my list was captain america, and its great storyline. is it amazing? is it new? nope. but the formula has always worked. there were problems here and there, but hey, its a movie. i CAN tho say that it was in general a great story, an entertaining movie, and fascinating to see a comic book hero whom i read thru the years of growing up, towards today.

rise of the planet of the apes brought something NEW to the storyline. i appreciated the fact that i ended up thinking, i was emotionally immersed with the characters, knowing, feeling, familiar with what was happening to them as a family, but as a protagonist.

its not their faults, it was actually their driving force that we wanted to make things work. we wanted something GOOD. pure faith that this was going to work.

amazingly solid storyline.

eye candy? easy.

strike a chord in your humanity? now THATS hard.

highly recommended. not only because towen gave this to me, but because you deserve to see this movie.

Quite a review, Jomari, and it has me interested in seeing this one; thank you!

you know me and movies bud.

like i said earlier, you can come up with a great looking movie, pure eye candy, but this one takes the cake.

I grabbed it yesterday, thinking about checking it out NOW....

hopefully, my insight isnt blowing hot air up someones ass.

i think my reputation with movies can be a bit wierd at times.

loved man from nowhere, yet love constantine too.

hmm.

anyways, its a great movie. enjoy it.

Just finished. Pretty good. I've always been indifferent about the Planet of the Apes films. And Tim Burton's movie ~10 yrs ago didn't really do anything to help that...but I enjoyed this new origin and look forward to future additions.

see thats the thing, i personally didnt like the original series, and its difficult to say this because i LOVE charlton heston. considering the caliber he brings to the table, its a lot. plus the fact that they didnt have cgi effects, nor fancy schmancy stuff too.

i guess im frightened by the way 'apes' resembled us in a way. whats that frame called again, the valley of something, where somethings too 'real' but it has to be unreal to be comfortable?

ah... after i googled it, its called uncanny valley.

its like a reboot to a very good story. kinda like how they did xmen this year. THAT kind of movie.

anyways glad you liked it bats...

before i head on out to bed... watching ...

wierdly enough, at times it has its soft scenes too. wierd i never noticed that. anyways, not bad.

hehehe.

debbie gibson's 'baby baby' playing in the neighbor scene.

Watched "The Help" today and even though it's a chick flick of sorts it was a great movie about race relations during the 60's and considering I was born in 68' never realized that racial bigotry was so prelevant just 45 years ago. I really have lived a sheltered life. Great movie though.

My brother, wife, and me watched Super 8 last night. It was better than I expected. I know nothing about the movie, so the suspense and creepy factor were fairly high for me. Worth a rental to me.

The best though was the King's Speech. What a great movie!

H. P. Deathly Hollows p. 2

Better than p. 1. Good for rental IMO. It's a buy for the H. P. fans / collectors. It did a good job tying the whole thing together.

X-Men First Class

What a waste of CGI. Young Prof. Xavier is a miscast. He doesn't quite fit in. It's either his acting or the directing was weak. The mutant's traits were presented in obnoxious ways and very shallow. And it's over 2 hours long. :handgestures-thumbdown:

Skip it unless you are one of X-Men fans.

watched green lantern.

man oh man, that was painful. it was GREAT as eye candy, but the story, oy vey.... like a girly drama flick about your self-worth with a green costume on.

i like ryan reynolds at times, but man, this was painful to watch.

will try to watch another movie to restore my faith in movies.

hmm... maybe the a-team or what not...
