What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

DIYer saw this tonight and as soon as I saw the orangutan I pointed and said, "Botch" my GF looks at me and says, "why are you calling that monkey a Bitch?". I had to stop the movie to stop laughing and explain what I said. :happy-smileygiantred:

glad to know people liked it. its a great way to restart the series if ever, sort of like how i felt with Star trek 2009.

and yes, i thought of botch through the movie later on. :happy-smileygiantred:

thanks to towen for such an amazing gift, i was able to watch it last night.

rise-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-logo-01.jpg

the amazing thing about movies is how somewhat its a great reflection of what we dream of, and what we fear the most in our lives.

this is a perfect example.it always has been since its inception in the 70's, and how well, it shows our imagination working on the concept of evolution, and a great twist into the darkest part of it.

what would happen if we find ourselves not on top of the mountain, but second place? and to whom? our predecessor, the ape.

rise of the planet of the apes brought something NEW to the storyline. i appreciated the fact that i ended up thinking, i was emotionally immersed with the characters, knowing, feeling, familiar with what was happening to them as a family, but as a protagonist.

its not their faults, it was actually their driving force that we wanted to make things work. we wanted something GOOD. pure faith that this was going to work.

amazingly solid storyline.

eye candy? easy.

strike a chord in your humanity? now THATS hard.

highly recommended. not only because towen gave this to me, but because you deserve to see this movie.

Watched last night and like you j I really enjoyed. The storyline had much more depth than I expected. Will be looking for a used copy and wonder if a sequel is planned.

We just got finished watching this on Blu-ray and we both thought is was good, but different than what we expected................definitely to be continued.

I am not sure about you guys, but I definitely felt for Cesar! ''CESAR IS HOME"

Matt, I thought the bass was lacking a bit!!!!

did you enjoy the movie tho heeman?

i think that at one point, i do admit that it felt a component was missing. something that i guess that shouldve tied the original series with this one.

but maybe thats also a good thing. i didnt really enjoy the original ones that well, maybe its because of the eminent amount of the uncanny valley i mentioned earlier. it was 'too real' or too similar.

anyways, in regards to the bass, im happy to report i was glad it didnt hurt as much, and that it wasnt needed, of course, until the end scene, which i admit, wanted to rock my room. come on right, its the golden gate bridge - i wanted a good amount of boom. was it needed? nope. i felt it wasnt an action movie, but more or less a drama.

im about to watch contagion.

heeman, what about Botch, did that name ever come up in your mind while watching this movie?

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Yes, enjoyed it.

The Realizm/Unrealizum of the Apes (if that makes sense) bothered me a little. However, I obviously felt the movie to be predictable, but why wouldn't it? The inclusion of the cure for Alzheimers was an interesting twist.

I was a fan of the Old Ones and found the costumes of the apes a much better fit for the storyline than the new one. However, I can't immediately remember the details of the first Rise of The Planet of The Apes ( I just Wikipedia-ed it and found out that there wasn't one!).

I will watch it again in the future, because there must be sutilties that I missed.

Glad to have it in my Blu-ray collection. We have the 2001 on DVD, which we will watch again also, maybe this weekend to recall if there are any similarities, from what I remember there are not.

I thought the Audio was somewhat lacking and could have had much better surround sound.

:twocents-mytwocents: I typically don't like and/or do well with Movie Reviews..................

No correlation and/or thoughts of my friend Botch at all..................

Heeman, I'm not sure if I follow you, are you saying there was no previous movie this was based on? I haven't seen the new one yet, but the movie I think this one is emmulating, Cesar was from the future, apes and monkeys had replaced dogs and maybe cats and had become servants. Each class of ape had their own color jumpsuit, which eventually led to their uniforms. Looking forward to seeing this one, just haven't had a chance.

Here is what I found regarding titles:

Planet of the Apes was followed by four sequels:

Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)

Remake and reboots

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

interesting, i didnt know that! is it that obvious i didnt watch the originals?

i guess i have to put that on my rental stuff then... thanks.

spoiler alert!!!!!

oh, watched contagion,

hmm.

1. i never thought about how difficult it was to see our nation, if ever something like this happens, would end up doing things like this. like lining up a whole bunch of people, and then screaming we only have x amount available. you could at LEAST thought of doing something better.

2. same thing with food - rations, but do it intelligently.

anyways, aside from the small rants, i guess it was a good movie overall. it was a rental for me, so i didnt care much for it. the video aspect tho was phoenomenal. nice to see 1:85 again.

Here is the Wiki LINK for Conquest. It says not officially a remake, but the story lines are similar.

We watched this on last night.................I think it is a must see.

They are ok for zombie action movies but for Milla Jovovich fans, fantastic, probably. They are continuing story. If I have to rate the two, Extinction is little better.

Since its release, i was contemplating on watching it, and delightfully saw it on netflix streaming.

Blackthorn,
available streaming HD, subtitles, 5.1 audio...

Having a soft spot for western, i approached this with fragility knowing three things.
1. sam shepard is cool. i have to google most of his work later on, but never seen him as a cowboy.
2. this is supposed to be a sequel to butch cassidy and sundance kid. big shoes to fill.
3. this is a low budget movie.

Considering the last variable, i ended up leaving my brain at the door, not to expect too much of it.

Finished the movie to report not only a solid storyline, but man, this is a great flick! Its subtle enough where you'd think the storyline is the same old same old, but it wasnt. I dont want to ruin anything, so i will stick to the technicalities.
1. Visually, this is a great movie. i dont have the best bandwidth, but at HD levels, it was a beaut to watch.
2. Audio - i expected not much of this, a little surround action here and there (but to be honest, there was only ONE scene the surrounds worked, that was with horses)...
3. story - top notch.

I highly recommend it. It aint goin to trump Butch cassidy, nor do i consider it as a sequel, but more or less i consider it a side story - if compared to a meal, its got more heft than a salad, it aint the main course, but i sure as hell can consider it a great accompaniment to any steak - like some good mash potatoes or outstanding french fries.

Great movie.

Great movie.

Thanks j. I've been eyeing that one will definitely add to my que.

I see Shane was recently added to NF streaming - watch that if you have never seen it.

Others on NF you may not have seen:

Quigley Down Under
Tom Horn (Steve McQueen)
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid
Whispering Smith
High Noon
and a lot of older John Wayne, Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry flicks.

Shane? like alan ladd shane?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046303/

i cant access netflix at work, but will look into that.

I have been thinking about getting into Quiqley Down under for a while, and might bite soon.

Tom Horn, i think i put my thoughts on here already, but if not...

I loved it. Its not the best one out there, but it shows some really good scenes, and well, for the reason of who he was in the west, and the contraversy around his story, was a great fit for Mcqueen.

Thanks Mzpro. :text-bravo:

You might give "Geronimo: An American Legend". a try if haven't already. Great cast good movie from Walter Hill of The Long Riders fame.
Wes Studi has the title role; Jason Patric, Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall co-star, with Matt Damon playing a young Army observer in one of his first prominent roles.

Shane I could take or leave never a fan really. Seemed more like a film critics Western the kid drives me batty calling Shaneeeeeeeeeeeee all the time.
