the amazing thing about movies is how somewhat its a great reflection of what we dream of, and what we fear the most in our lives.
this is a perfect example.it always has been since its inception in the 70's, and how well, it shows our imagination working on the concept of evolution, and a great twist into the darkest part of it.
what would happen if we find ourselves not on top of the mountain, but second place? and to whom? our predecessor, the ape.
rise of the planet of the apes brought something NEW to the storyline. i appreciated the fact that i ended up thinking, i was emotionally immersed with the characters, knowing, feeling, familiar with what was happening to them as a family, but as a protagonist.
its not their faults, it was actually their driving force that we wanted to make things work. we wanted something GOOD. pure faith that this was going to work.
amazingly solid storyline.
eye candy? easy.
strike a chord in your humanity? now THATS hard.
highly recommended. not only because towen gave this to me, but because you deserve to see this movie.
Watched last night and like you j I really enjoyed. The storyline had much more depth than I expected. Will be looking for a used copy and wonder if a sequel is planned.
jomari said:did you enjoy the movie tho heeman?
i think that at one point, i do admit that it felt a component was missing. something that i guess that shouldve tied the original series with this one.
but maybe thats also a good thing. i didnt really enjoy the original ones that well, maybe its because of the eminent amount of the uncanny valley i mentioned earlier. it was 'too real' or too similar.
anyways, in regards to the bass, im happy to report i was glad it didnt hurt as much, and that it wasnt needed, of course, until the end scene, which i admit, wanted to rock my room. come on right, its the golden gate bridge - i wanted a good amount of boom. was it needed? nope. i felt it wasnt an action movie, but more or less a drama.
im about to watch contagion.
Huey said:Heeman, I'm not sure if I follow you, are you saying there was no previous movie this was based on? I haven't seen the new one yet, but the movie I think this one is emmulating, Cesar was from the future, apes and monkeys had replaced dogs and maybe cats and had become servants. Each class of ape had their own color jumpsuit, which eventually led to their uniforms. Looking forward to seeing this one, just haven't had a chance.

Planet of the Apes was followed by four sequels:
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
Remake and reboots
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

Blackthorn,
available streaming HD, subtitles, 5.1 audio...
Great movie.

I see Shane was recently added to NF streaming - watch that if you have never seen it.
Others on NF you may not have seen:
Quigley Down Under
Tom Horn (Steve McQueen)
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid
Whispering Smith
High Noon
and a lot of older John Wayne, Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry flicks.
Srvy said:You might give "Geronimo: An American Legend". a try if haven't already. Great cast good movie from Walter Hill of The Long Riders fame.
Wes Studi has the title role; Jason Patric, Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall co-star, with Matt Damon playing a young Army observer in one of his first prominent roles.
Shane I could take or leave never a fan really. Seemed more like a film critics Western the kid drives me batty calling Shaneeeeeeeeeeeee all the time.
