What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

Saw Bourne Legacy.

Really liked the film overall, but the final car/motorcycle chase was a bit over the top... lol.

D

Agreed. A little too long on the final chase scene, but it was SO BADASS when the bad guy crashed into the pillar!!! Awesome! Had to rewind and watch it twice (both times that we watched this movie)! Lol

Watched a documentary last night called "CleanFlix" the story about how video rental stores in Utah were editing major motion pictures and getting rid of sex, violence and language and how they were battling the Directors Guild of America who naturally were pissed that their movies were being mangled. To me Mormons are the biggest fucking hypocrites of all time and this movie proved it even more so. I was reminded when Larry Flynt of Hustler was sued in Utah and the prosecutor tried his damndest to prove that Utah was filled with God fearing law abiding citizens and not subjected to smut. Yet the Defending attorney proved that the hotel across the street from the courthouse sold more rental "XXX rated" movies than any other hotel in the country.

This time the documentary followed a young man who opened up a "Clean Flix" store to appeal to the Mormons and when the DGA shut them down he went and found other means to keep the business open (using other film distributors of "clean" movies and operating under the guise of selling these movies for "educational" purposes). It was then discovered that this guy was caught getting a blow job from two 14 year old girls (at the store) and had a massive collection of porn DVD's in the back store room.

The reason I liked this movie is when I lived in Mesa, AZ (second biggest congregation of Mormons next to Utah) I had a rental card for BlockBuster (which was a Mormon owned company I later found out) and it pissed me off that I discovered that some of the movies I tried to rent where "edited". I was pissed. I paid my money to see the whole movie and hate when any organization tries to infringe of my right to see Kate Winslet's Ta-Ta's in Titantic. So this movie was like watching "Karma" in action.

I remember when that happened. :laughing-rolling:

One nagging question as a comic book illiterate, how does Bane eat food? :confusion-scratchheadblue:
Well, with the benefit of internet, here it is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1345836/faq#.2.1.122
Batman gurus, is that accurate?
Only read the Bane eating portion of the link...in the comics Bane doesn't wear a mask that delivers medication or anesthetics like the movie. He wears a luchador mask and uses a drug called venom pumped is to his body at several locations to hulk out. So that IMDB explanation is as valid as any other I've heard...

"I derive 47% of my nourishment from Venom!"

Just watched for the first time Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation". Wow what a twist ending, slow at times but very suspenseful and a lot of stars. Gene Hackman of course, a young Harrison Ford and uncredited Robert Duvall. Almost didn't recognize Teri Garr as his downstairs booty call neighbor. Great film though. Loved How Gene would play his sax listening to jazz greats via his record player through a tube amp and through Klipsch Heresy speaker (yes just one speaker). This 1974 film is very dated with the technology but its fun to see how far surveillance equipment has come since this film was made. Can't believe I waited so long to see this one.

one of my all time favorite 'old' movies. aside from Gene Hackmans greatest performance, i love how enemy of the state was essentially an 'extension' of this movie, directly or indirectly.

its a great movie, and a great medium showing how 'assumption' can get the best of us.

Jomai yeah I was aware Enemy of the the State was an extension of his character. Much like "Sneakers" was an extension of Robert Redford's fantastic 70's movie "Three days of the Condor (my all time favorite movie btw).

Resident Evil: Retribution

Too bad it didn't turn out well. To me, it's the weakest of all series. Very little plot and lots of action just for action sake. Oh, yeah, those zombies that can drive trucks, ride motorcycles and shoot guns...

Only redeeming quality is seeing Milla Jovovich in tights. For a 37 y.o. woman (likely 35 - 36 when this movie was shot), she's holding up really well. Such shape is seen on women in their early 20's.

2 stars out of 5 from me.

I saw Parental Guidance last nite at my dates request, it was better than I thought it would be. Not as good as Hall Pass, I watched that from a free movie weekend I liked that one so much I am going to buy the DVD.

The Innkeepers is an excellent horror movie, great casting for the male and female leads

The Killer Inside Me, is a pretty good movie. A kind of brutal, Texas film noir movie. Jessica Alba is fantastic, Casey Affleck is
good too.

^ But Milla Jovovich fans love the series. The first one has her semi clothed / nude towards the end where a lot of people have reported using freeze frame.

new years eve, my sister rented this via directv, and was forced to watch it...

Pitch Perfect

Not bad, some slapstick in there, but it was fun to watch during the new years eve before the ball dropped.

Very entertaining.

Also watched during the new years a Pantheon marathon on MGMHD,

Pink panther series. didnt get to watch all of them, but man, its a great series!

Looper:

one of the best sci fi flicks ive seen this er, last year. its been a while since ive seen some quality stuff, and this one definitely sets the bar pretty high.

great presentation, great SOLID storyline, character development, and despite a couple of holes here and there, it worked pretty damn well. i love it.

Killer Elite:

some people thought this movie was trash, well, i think it was pretty much acceptable. i like that the settings in the 80's and it showed 70% of the time that it was. the remaining was just simply 'being in the movie'. nonetheless i liked it, it wasnt bad, but it aint super good either. glad this was a streaming movie.
