What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

If you liked Blazing Saddles you should watch Mel Brooks "History of the World Part One". Same kinda raw humor.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Someone recommended me this classic. Came out in 1963, it's pretty darn good even in today's standard. It's a semi-dark comedy. Well scripted and directed. I've seen bits of it on TV over the years but this is the first time seeing the whole thing. You will recognize many names in this movie, Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, Jonathan Winters just to name a few. It was like time travel to early 60's, cars, tech, culture, scenery and ...etc. I really enjoyed this movie. 4 stars out of 5 from me. :handgestures-thumbupright:
That mother in-law sure deserved what she's got at the end. :eusa-clap:

DIY I've been recommending this classic for years. One of my all time fava. I actually owned the directors cut on VHS which added about 35 minutes which really expanded the movie even more. Sadly the directors cut was never released on DVD.

Yeah, well... sometimes the radar misses things.

The babes in this movie would still be considered babes in today's standard. I'm not sure what the perception was back then, too skinny maybe? :confusion-shrug:

I think I've seen all his other flicks, just hadn't seen BS yet.
I'm beginning to think that Botch is a Russian spy.

Yeah, hell, even *I* have seen that one...

Well as Ethel says, "Anything Goes". :handgestures-thumbup:

Meh..., it was ok at best. Despite all the CGI advancement, it's not as good as 1985 version, IMO. It may be received better by vampire movie fans. 2.5 stars out of 5 from me. :|

Just watched "Sinister" with Ethan Hawke. Holy schnikies was this a uber creepy scary as crap film. At one point my GF exclaimed, "Oh Fuck". She more screamed it than spoke it. This one actually set off her asthma due to her jumping out of her chair so much. This one should be out on video soon and if you want to scare the Hell out of you and your loved ones than this is the movie to watch.

Story goes is this true crime writer and his family move into the house of four murder victims and he finds a box of 8MM films and projector in the attic and the films all show the gruesome murders of entire families by a strange creepy looking character. The films are super creepy themselves without all the wierd stuff going on in the house that the writer has moved into. Ethan's character slowly puts together by watching each film what's going on and try's to solve the crime himself.

This one will make you jump. I don't get scared watching horror movies and the only movie that ever creeped me out was "The Exorcist" when I watched it at age 10 alone in the basement of my parents house. This is the second movie that has creeped me out that much. GF says she will never ever watch this one again and smacked me several times for making her watch this one.

They say there aren't many R-rated drama anymore. This is a good one. It can also turn into PG-13 with only a few minutes of editing. Anyways, I liked this movie and the acting by D W was pretty good. John Goodman played an interesting and funny character despite it's a drama. Well scripted and edited. The crash scene is well choreographed and pictured. It's a high quality movie. Too bad we don't get these often.

There is a hottie stewardess in this movie but...

The moral of the story is about the honesty and its value we hold.

4 stars out of 5 from me. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Just saw on Netflix a movie called "Butter" oh my Lord what a dark dark comedy. I have never felt so guilty about laughing so hard. Movie has a lot of stars. Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde (as a hot ass stripper whose scenes alone were worth watching this), Alicia Silverstone and a few other stars. Story is about a butter sculpting competition and what people will do to win. Btw there is a great lesbian scene with Olivia). Also funny seeing these stars and the language and parts they play. Think you guys will really enjoy this one if your into dark comedies.
Purchased a week or so ago and watched yesterday based on your high praise...I really enjoyed it. Everyone in it did a great job delivering their way over-the-top performances. :handgestures-thumbup:

argo-blu-ray.jpg

Watched Argo tonight...in a word, phenomenal. Ben Affleck is turning out to be a helluva director.

Agree Bats I think Argo is one of the best movies I've seen in years and think Affleck not being nominated for an Oscar for directing was a huge mistake. At least he won the Directors Guild Award for directing. Just an awesome movie.

Just watched one of my favorite "James Bond" films "Tomorrow Never Dies" with Pierce Brosnan. Best Buy had a deal this week where every Bond Bluray was 7.99/ea I chose not to get the box set as I only like half the movies in the series the other half (Lanzenby, Dalton and half the Roger Moore) I could care less for. Anyway picked up TND and boy whomever mixed the audio for the Bluray did a first rate job. This entire movie is an assault on the ears and senses (more than any other Bond film) and also stars Asian Sensation "Michelle Yeoh" whom I fell in love with in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

The first scene in the movie was just pure audio bliss with explosions, Missle launches, machine gun fire and a fighter jet dogfight in the sky. The audio pan around the room was incredible along with giving my subs a deep workout. I just watched Casino Royal and Skyfall in the past two weeks yet this older Bond film seemed to have way better audio than those (must've been all the non stop action. I am also a fan of actor/thespian Jonathan Pryce who plays the baddie Media Mogul in this one. Anyway for those who may have missed this one this is one of the "better" bond films out there. The audio alone makes it a first rate demo disk.
