What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

Coma
51dWjGEvceL._SX500_.jpg

This 1978 movie is a good one! Action, suspense, mystery and medical. Well written (by Michael Crichton, also wrote Jurassic Park) and directed. It's about series of mysterious coma incidents taking place at a well established hospital. A doctor (Geneviève Bujold - very cute in her days) got very suspicious which led her to do her own investigation despite taking a great risk. Then she discovers something...

Michael Douglas, Tom Selleck and Ed Harris are in it when they were small time actors.

I'll bet many of you have seen the freaky poster image of human bodies suspended on wires. It's one of those forgotten classics. 4 stars out of 5 from me. :handgestures-thumbupright:

I'll be surprised if Matt doesn't own this movie and not keep it in the all time favorite section.

DIYer last year one of the cable channels (think TNT) did a really good remake of that movie. More modern but same story about body harvesting.

The wife redboxed it on Thursday and we liked it so much, we went out and bought the 3D version of it. My only gripe with the movie, is I wished they had spent a little more time in some different games.

I have to watch this again........I am thinking that I liked Baraka more.

Agreed. Samsara had some good parts but got a little too "preachy" (despite lack of dialog), was more than a little dismayed at the sex dolls because the kids were watching with me! :scared-eek: Fortunately I think they bought the line that they were jut mannequins...

Just watched "Used Cars" on the Sony movie channel. Man I forgot how hysterical this movie is with a young Kurt Russell.

Skyfall

I liked it. Some say it's the best of the Bond series. I can't say it is or not because I can't keep track of all of them. One thing for sure is "back in time" as he says. It's a different approach to Bond tradition and I think it worked well. Many good traditional actions which I thought was a refreshing change in this era of CGI drenched action movies.

Long movie for this series but didn't feel it which is a good sign. Audio quality is very good and picture quality is one of the best I've seen in recent years. There are many scenes with artistic touch which is again unusual for Bond series. Well done! 4 stars out of 5 from me.

PS. I didn't see the much publicized Heineken over martini as Bond's drink. What happened? Is this different for rental vs purchase discs?

I have seen it twice now and it is definitely not my favorite.

Spoiler Alert!!!

I was somewhat turned off by the way "M" belittled Bond. I have been a fan for years and unless I have been confused for all those years and Bond Movies, I never remembered Bond to be disrespected....

That's all? I suppose that was worth millions. But he did order / consume a martini at the casino in Macau. He just didn't call it so.

So subtle... and yet, so expensive. :?

As for the booze ad in Skyfall, I would say Macallan paid more than Heineken because it had multiple scenes (M had some, Bond had a shot, Silva wasted a serving), name shown at close up and specific age mentioned.

I have no issues with M talking down to 007, she is his superior after all. He knows she respects him and visa versa in the end...

Watched this with the family this afternoon - loved it! IMHO the best of the franchise. Not that it was a "great" movie by critical standards, but it was fun and there were a lot of hilarious moments. Great family flick.

Again Pauly no picture shows up so gonna assume you were watching this.

Just watched it last night. Thanks for the suggestion, Matt, however, it doesn't measure up to the original. I know I'm comparing TV movie to theater movie but still, it just doesn't have as much thrill, mystery and suspense despite the advancement of special effects since 1978 and the help from well known actors (Richard Dreyfuss, Geena Davis, James Woods). That leaves the burden to the writer and director. It goes to show that those CGI and digital tech and etc are only skin deep.

2.5 stars out of 5 from me. :|
