Favorite Albums You Think No One Else Knows About

No offense, man, but this is about albums no one knows about... Mumford and Sons is HUGE and written about in every magazine, played on every radio station, and used in every TV show. Hard to call that unique and underground.

I posted the same but it never posted. I like the style of music but unfortunately they are like an Irish/Folk Linkin Park......redundancy at it's worst.

MZ, you don't listen to much radio do you? These boys are on at least once an hour.

Actually I listen to very little if any broadcast music radio. I either listen to music via my iPod, or Satellite (which I won't renew when my free trial runs out the SQ sucks) and certain news/talk programs.

I can't remember the last time I tuned to a broadcast station to listen to music - so much crap so little time.

I had never heard about the album, so I think he is good about posting it. Now about that picture of your wife with the "shut the hell up" glare, where did I put that?

Re: Favorite Albums No One Else Knows About

Don't get me wrong... the album is pretty good. I am just calling out the popularity of it when the thread is about albums we have that no one else knows about.

Just who the hell are you to make that kind of decision? the post police?

How do you know that there aren't those out there that haven't heard it? I'd never heard it and it seems someone else didn't either.

The height of arrogance.

Uh, my *Sigh* remark was trying to convey that 1. the album title was misspelled, and 2. the album does not belong in this thread. Pauly posted something about it and -B- tried to. Pauly has a thread dedicated to that album and I've posted about the song Little Lion Man. This is easily one of the most popular albums of the year and they get oodles of airtime on multiple stations serving different genres (hits, alternative).

Edit: I originally heard the band on my alternative-leaning Pandora station, months before I heard them on the radio...

Edit 2: I'll be the post police. There are multiple threads about "what are you listening to" and to get the word out about various genres of music. This thread is specifically for stuff you KNOW is obscure. There is NO WAY anyone who has spun the Mumford & Sons album could ever think that it was obscure; could not know that it's one of the most popular albums of the year. That isn't to talk down to anyone who hasn't heard it, that's fine, there's a ton of shit I haven't heard of but really, if you have heard this album then you'd know it does not belong in this thread.

WTF? No one else has ever posted a remark in a thread that was a bit "off topic"?

And who is anyone but perhaps a mod that can make a decision as to what should or should not be posted?

I initiated this thread and see nothing wrong with him referring to that album.

And to satisfy the "nit pickers" I have revised the title of the thread.

I don't think anyone else has heard of this band from a few years back called The Beatles. I'm going to fill up the next 20 pages of this thread talking about their albums.

I love you, man.

If we were sitting around the table and someone asked, "What's your favorite albums that no one else knows about?" and someone offered up an album EVERYONE knows about, then many would call them out on it and we would all laugh and make that guy buy the next round of beers.

For some reason someone makes that comment here and you suddenly turn into the forum police and go ape-sh_t on us. YOU are being the forum police, dude. We are discussing the topic at hand in this forum.

Seriously? Valid point.....and I'm gonna put a $1 down to say you HAVE heard of it and used the previous "thanks not familiar with that one" to once again blow the leaves on the neighbors lawn.

The point was valid, and even if you didn't hear of it 99% of us have so I think it was properly posted without arrogance or any implied malice. Be like if I posted Arcade Fire's newest album.....you may not have heard of them but they won a Grammy so they aren't exactly obscure.....

Why do you do it?

Edit: change the thread title back, you were the only one that got butt hurt over it. You started a good thread and F'd it up with your post.

Go ahead. As far as I am concerned you can post what you want.

That's the difference I'm not going to tell anyone what they should post. If they think it is relevant to the topic then go ahead and post

I was very honest in saying I never heard of it. that's the truth but believe what you will.

And in my opinion it was not a valid point. It was arrogance to assume that "everyone" has heard it.

And why do I do what - point out something I feel was inappropriate - seems that is exactly what Flint did. sorry if that offends you.

I have done my best not to interact with Flint to avoid things like the current discussions. But when someone is arrogant enough to tell a poster they really should not post something in a thread like that it pissed me off so much I had to say something.

NO! I liked this thread the way it was! I liked coming in here and seeing the weird ass shit that some of you listen to! I don't come here to see the freakin' Beatles or one of the most popular albums of this year! Okay, that is all, let's get this sucker back on track:

Track 3, Out into the Empty, is awesome.

One question and then I back to not getting involved in discussions with you.

Why do you feel YOU can decide what is or is not an album to post on this thread?

And according to your logic we should not allow any posts that are "off topic" for a thread, I'm sure you've never done that - things will get pretty boring around here

Re: Favorite Albums No One Else Knows About

Wasn't worth calling out, lots of things on forums are taken as inappropriate or annoying or offensive and aren't worth derailing a thread over. I just wonder if Zing, Towen7, Pauly or anyone else posted the very same thing would your reaction be the same. I don't think it would have been.

Cannot find where I said anyone should not have posting something. What am I missing?

I just pointed out the fact that the album wasn't "unknown" in terms of common popularity in the press, radio, TV and Movies.

Here's a link to Billboard where they discuss the crazy popularity of the Mumford and Sons album:
http://www.billboard.com/artist/mumford ... 7712.story

So, I will now post what I want, you will post what you want, and everyone else can post what they want. I applaude everyone posting whatever they want. We can even argue about what others are posting. The freedom of expression is well established here. How you take a comment about an album not being "unknown" is somehow my telling people not to post is most interesting to me.

I've heard of the Beatles.

I've never heard of Mumford and Sons. Are they similar?

But then, I don't listen to pop/crap on the radio either. Are they pop/crap?

I sincerely had never heard of the group or the album, so I appreciate smgreen for posting it. When Pauly was over to my house this past summer, he made a comment that he recognized only about 1/2 of the artists on my squeezebox, and I thought I stayed pretty mainstream with my music. If someone posts an album that you figure everyone should know, well maybe not everyone knows it. Ignore it and move on. This was a great idea for a thread, and would hate to see it go down the crapper.

Guys, I am the king of not-having-heard-of-shit, plus also no-I-haven't-seen-that-movie to boot. So don't fuck with me on this one.

Here's an obscure one. Not sure if I could call it a favorite exactly since I haven't listened to it in decades... but I actually saw these guys performing in the parking lot of a small strip mall in my home town of Los Alamos, I guess it was in the mid to late 80's? Not sure.

I give you: the Austin Lounge Lizards. Despite the name, I have no idea if they're actually associated with Austin, TX... Flint?
